| Getting ready to visit both schools and doing some advance research. Dream school is Fordham, but having a 1200 SAT makes it tough to be competitive there despite high grades. If you have experience w/either school please share. |

I have many friends who attended Loyola and loved their experience.
We toured St. Joe's and really liked the vibe. Are you coming from a Catholic High School? |
|
At the Catholic HS my DD attends, just about everyone who had a weighted GPA of over a 3.75 has gotten accepted to Fordham in the last 3 years.
Are you able to look at info from the students applying from your high school as opposed to general info? |
| I like them both! More familiar with St. Joe's, as I have lots of family in Philadelphia. There's good school spirit, good internship opportunities, it's a little more diverse than many Catholic colleges. The kids can go to Center City Philly if they want, or stick closer to campus. There has been some crime in recent years, but that's true of most colleges. |

Loyola is fantastic, OP!
It's also in close proximity to Johns Hopkins, Goucher, Notre Dame and Towson. Beautiful campus and safe, "college" area vibe with so many surrounding schools |
| Fordham is test optional, with less than a third of last year's freshman class submitting scores, per the CDS. Also, fewer than 40% were in the top tenth of their high school class and the overall acceptance rate was 50%+, so if your kid has excellent grades and applies TO, they're probably in like Flynn. |
| My son got in to Loyola a couple years ago with a 3.3 UW, TO for engineering. Received limited merit so ended up elsewhere but overall liked the school. |
| I went to a different Jesuit but one thing about the loyolas is it’s confusing to others. The next question is…which one? Or…is that in Chicago? Or New Orleans? California? People generally know where Gonzaga and Xavier are. St Joe’s too. |

I'm a Loyola alum and my DS attends Loyola now. We also visited St. Joe's and the campus is remarkably similar to Loyola's. I liked St. Joe's more than he did. The first visit was during the summer and that was probably a mistake since it was pretty dead there then.
My DS applied EA to both and was accepted. He came from a Catholic HS and probably had a 3.1 GPA when he applied (was a 3.3 when he graduated). He applied TO. Both schools gave him good merit money but Loyola gave him more FA. He also like Manhattan College a lot (that was in his top 3 along with Loyola and Duquesne). Maybe look at Manhattan since it's close to Fordham. GL! |
| We have a family member who loved their time at St Joe’s. He took my kid on a tour and he loved it too. We haven’t looked at Loyola because it doesn’t have my kid’s major, but there was a family on our tour where both parents were Loyola grads and they kept commenting on how similar the two schools were. |

Loyola just went up in the rankings for US News & World Report for our region. |
My kid with 1270, 3.9 UW, About 6 APs, and a combo of sports & arts awards was turned down from Fordham. Also a legacy. Keep your options open! Fordham is also expensive re: lifestyle. A bagel in Philly or Baltimore is not as pricy as a bagel in NYC. Multiple that by Ubers, water, salads, coffee, movies.... |
| St Joe's is a wonderful community with great kids. I live/work in Philly and love my associates from St Joe's! |
| Anyone have a kid in the Loyola Global Studies major? I mostly see posts about their business school so didn't think the school had much in the way of poli sci but the global studies curriculum looks pretty cool for him. |
| Following for feedback from parents of current Loyola students. DS was accepted yesterday- haven't toured yet but excited about the offer. |
