| The countertops are the last decision I need to make for our kitchen renovation and we are using the same stone for the counter and the backsplash so they need to be nice. I can't seem to find anything I like. The color of my new cabinets is a light taupe and I would love a beautiful marble-like quartz. I have not been able to find one. I went to the MSI showroom and a few slab showrooms in Sterling today and all the quartz looked very fake. I would consider but all the quartzite I saw was too dark and tonally wrong for our kitchen. I saw some marble I liked but according to my kitchen designer it will be 8,000 more than the quartz and difficult to care for. I feel very stuck on this decision. Can anyone point me in the direction of a very a good quartz (brand and style would be helpful), and/or specific stone yards that we should go any visit in person? I considered Daltile Valor White quartz but when I saw it in person I did not love it. |
Sorry for all the spelling errors - typing on phone! |

I hate all the fake marble. I think if you want to do quartz, pick one without fake veining, just a solid/speckled color. It’s okay for it to just look like what it is.
In my kitchen, I’d always pick a granite or other natural stone (not marble). But if it really has to be white, I would rather have a quartz that isn’t pretending to be something else. |
| We really like Calacatta Monaco Quartz - very light veining so doesn't appear fake. Not sure how it goes with taupe, however. |
| We just remodeled our kitchen with light taupe cabinets (Shaker Sand) and chose Calacatta Valentin countertops. We're very happy with the combination. |
| Quartz counters can be made to whatever you want, so find some small samples and decide, and a reputable manufacturer will pour it to specs. |
| I was looking for a marble dupe and did Caesarstone London Grey and loooooved it. |
| Have you looked at aureastone? |
| Thank you all. I will look into these. I may have to revisit marble yards as well. Anyone know where I can see slabs of Vermont Imperial Dabney marble in person in the DC area? |
I mean, it's too late now, but you should have made all those choices before you started renovating your kitchen. You don't paint your cabinets until you know your countertop (and everything else). |

IMO all quartz looks fake. Also, marble is beautiful but I read a lot of regrets having it in kitchen.
Have you considered granite? Go to East West Marble in Sterling. It’s a granite supplier that many fabricators go through to get their stone. Many options here. |
Chantilly has a cluster of slab yards (COSMOS, East West Marble, Fairfax Marble) all very close to each other. I would try to go there. Also consider quartzite which is more durable than marble. |
I think it’s really tempting to be able to look online and focus on the brand names or quarries of different stones, but it’s more practical to just show up at a stone yard and look at the slabs in front of you. |

+1. The stone yards turn over their inventory constantly, so you have to visit them frequently and see what comes in. Post a photo of the type of marble you like. There are a myriad of quartz options, but there are also quartzite options that do look like marble. If you are looking for taupe tones, Taj Mahal is very durable and comes in many tones, so you have to be patient and look for what you like. Whiter quartzites that look like marble include blanco superiore, mont blanc, azurra bay, etc etc. Quartz can also deviate from the sample, so it’s important to look at the whole slab and choose specific slabs. Choosing stone is more like choosing a puppy that choosing a paint color. You have to like the specific slab. |
