Scholarships based on 11th grade PSAT score?

Anonymous
Are there colleges that give some scholarship like 50% tuition off based on 11th grade PSAT / NMSQT scores? I heard USC gives based on PSAT score is that true? Are there other schools that does as well?

I think you are referring to National Merit Semi Finalists (NMSF)? There are a few threads on that right now.

No I am asking about tuition waivers in universities based on PSAT scores

I’ve never heard of any school doing that. It would make no sense.

If your PSAT score was high enough to justify a half-tuition scholarship, you’d be an NMSF anyway.

And if your PSAT score is high, but not quite high enough to make the NMSF cutoff, you should be able to prep and get an SAT score high enough to get scholarships.

I wonder how many people thread the needle of accepting that offer.

NP. No, this is a misunderstanding. Colleges DO NOT give scholarships based on PSAT scores. There isn't even a way to report PSAT scores to colleges.

The USC scholarship is based on getting the National Merit Finalist award (which is based on PSAT).

Best thing to do is take the SAT, score high, report that, and hope for merit. There are colleges that give automatic merit based on a combination of GPA and SAT or ACT.

OP, most colleges have a place on their website where you can find details about the merit scholarships they offer.

For example, you can see here https://issuu.com/esdwebm/docs/scholarship_grid_issuu_?fr=sOTZiNjY0ODIwMjg the types of scholarships offered by USC. You won't find one that says "PSAT." It does, however, show the scholarship offered for National Merit Finalist.

But then you would have to attend Liberty University. 😩

Then what is the use / value of PSAT if it is not for NM scholarship?

Typically what is the PSAT score to get National Merit Finalist award

In the DC area you need at least a 222, 223, 224 range score to advance as a semi-finalist. It varies year to year and state to state.

PSAT scores are used to identify National Merit Semifinalists/Finalists. If you qualify as NMSF or NMF, several schools will offer tuition discounts (scholarships) all the way up to free rides.

You asked about USC - they only consider PSAT scores for NMF.
