My 8 yo has high cholesterol. I’m trying to swap foods to make his meals more healthy. I’d appreciate suggestions. For instance:
1. He loves bread. I’m trying to avoid brioche and similar types. Which type would you recommend. 2. Ideas for protein snacks? He does not eat eggs or cheese. He doesn’t drink milk either. 3. He eats plenty of fruits. His señection of veggies is much restricted. He likes carrots, broccoli and salads (with dressing). Other options to try? |

Ezekiel bread or other sprouted bread
Beans or edamame Try cauliflower, Coleslaw, kale salad, asparagus |
| Oatmeal can help reduce cholesterol. Cheerios are made from oats and have a similar effect. Also swap to leaner meats (lower fat percentage). But diet is only a small contributer to cholesterol so there may only be so much you can do |
| Thank you PPs. All good options. He eats plenty of oatmeal, though. |

Hummus, plain popcorn, whole grain crackers and breads, apples, brown rice, whole grain pasta.
In addition to diet, make sure he’s physically active and gets enough exercise each day. |
| For protein—nuts, seeds, beans. |
To lower cholesterol, he needs to EXERCISE. Nothing else will do it, as it it probably genetic. As far as diet, restricting cholesterol foods simply makes your body produce more cholesterol. The worst foods to eat if you have high cholesterol are high carb foods such as breads, pastas, fruit drinks, sugary stuff, etc. That's really all you need to know. It's simple. Also, cholesterol meds are DANGEROUS. |
| How on earth does an 8 yo get high cholesterol?? Is that really a thing? |
| Genetics |
| A Harvard study showed that Oreos reduces cholesterol. Have him eat a box a day; seriously. |
lmao that's mean of them even if meant in ironic jest. |
This except I don’t know if cholesterol meds are dangerous. Dietary cholesterol plays a smaller role in your cholesterol levels. Exercise and staying away from refined carbs are good things to try. I don’t think oatmeal does crap for cholesterol but if he likes it, it’s fine. Try the steel cut slow cook kind. |
Genetics. |
My theory is oatmeal “lowers “ cholesterol because if you’re eating that you’re not eating eggs, bacon and sausage for breakfast. |
