6th graders wearing make up?

Anonymous
Can someone explain to me the rationale for allowing a 6th grader (an elementary student in FCPS) to wear full on makeup to school? Eyeshadow, mascara, blush and lipstick? It’s creeping me out. It doesn’t look good and it doesn’t seem appropriate at this age.

I won’t let my daughter wear makeup just so her skin doesn’t get messed up, but I figure parents see it as a self expression/ hobby so they let it happen.

It’s really jarring to see a young girl in clown makeup - I just can’t believe a parent allows that to school.

I've always thought of middle school as the age to start allowing at least some makeup and in most places 6th is middle school. My 7th grader still isn't into makeup and her friends who were last year looked ridiculous, but it's not a huge deal.

Idiot parent allows this.

I let me daughter wear lip gloss on 6th grade and mascara now in 7th grade. She had friends wearing a bit as early as 4th grade and a full face of makeup as early as 5th grade. It did not affect her or me or OP one bit. Live and let live, OP.

And that's why I love Catholic schools. They don't tolerate that crap. My daughter is 21 and wears makeup now and probably started in late middle school, but never to school. It wasn't allowed.

Our Catholic didn't have any such rules against makeup.

I let my 6th grade daughter wear light makeup (mascara, light eyeshadow, etc.).

My mom thought it was too young, but then I reminded her that I started wearing makeup in 6th grade too lol. Back in the 80s, it was way more garish (blue mascara!).

No one really needs to explain their rationale to you because it’s their child. If you don’t allow it in your home then fine.

Usually "natural" is the only restriction.

6th grade is way too young for this!

Middle school is when most girls start experimenting with makeup. In most places 6th grade is middle school. Seems totally normal.

Ours doesn’t allow it either, though some girls apparently try to sneak in with mascara or blush. I’m grateful it’s not allowed.
