I notice they use it during the school day last week - but was told it was for better signal. I am not buying that.
Any reason a MCPS student needs a VPN besides getting around MCPS firewalls and probably parent phone limits? |
| MCPS has blocked social media apps on their network this year. If your kid uses those a lot, that might be why. |
| It may sound counterintuitive, but some web sites are faster if you go through a VPN. They probably don't want the school snooping at their internet traffic, too. |
It was on their phone, not the Chromebook. |
LMAO! Is this a teen posting this? OP, the only reason your teen is using a VPN is to either get around the school's network restrictions or your parental controls. Block VPNs on their phone NOW. |
| I use VPN for faster internet |
| What is a vpn |
|
It’s to get on Snapchat at school
|
| Yea, it’s to get around blocks and hide things. |
| How do you block every VPN app. There are so many |
|
Nope no reason. Most of them dont work in MCPS anyways.
If he/she is using a free one, it is most certainly collecting data to sell. It's how the app makes money. |
+1. Ask better followup question like, Where were they at, what were they doing that they needed faster internet long enough to require VPN? On a cell phone? |
|
shouldn't we all be using a VPN for security purposes?
|
No. VPNs are usually bad for security. You're routing your traffic directly through sketchy third parties. |
if you use a public network you absolutely "must" use a vpn, still shouldnt tho and to connect to certain secure sites you absolutely must |
