For my spouse's birthday. Spouse mostly likes red wine. We will not be staying the night, but nice views would be a bonus.
TIA |
| Don't go to VA wineries for red wine- they are known to be terrible. |
|
I don’t agree with the above— cabernet franc is a popular VA wine.
Some ideas: The Winery at Bull Run (very close); Barboursville (one of the better known vineyards); Stone Tower (very popular); Bluemont (very popular, beautiful views). These are all fairly close and easy but I wouldn’t say any of them have fantastic wine. If you really care about quality and want a higher end (and definitely more expensive) experience, go to RdV. It’s quieter (not as overrun with birthday parties and bachelorette groups) and has excellent wine. Price point is much higher, of course. |
| Lots of wineries around dc. I like Antietam, the views are beautiful. |
| Is the wine important? |
|
Especially on an off day when it won’t be crowded, bluemont is nice with the view. I find the wine to be pretty good! Certainly fine/fun if you’re not a wine person (I’m not).
You could go have lunch and walk around Middleburg too. The sandwiches at the Salamander shop thing are yummy. |
|
RdV or Barboursville but both are farther.
Breaux is very pretty but the wines are not good imo. |
| Bluemont has beautiful views |
| Potomac Point Winery has a lovely set up, nice for celebrations. |
+1 I am the red wine poster above and if you don’t really care about how good it is, I would suggest Stone Tower. |
|
Early Mountain. A bit more than an hour but the lunch there is amazing.
|
WSJ disagrees with you. |
Potomac Point is awesome! Stone Tower is beautiful if you don’t care about the wine being good. I also recommend Paradise Springs in Clifton and then eating at the Italian restaurant in town. That is a lovely day! |
| Woodbrook Farm winery is my favorite. Best combination of beautiful setting and good wine. In Orange so on the way to/from Charlottesville |
So, many people are saying…? |
