Electric bill?

Anonymous
What's your highest and lowest electric bill of the year?

monthly:

july: $230
december: $125

I guess the difference is almost entirely AC?

house: 2 story + finished basement
electric: AC, (mostly LED) lights, TV/computers,
non-electric: gas: heat, water heat, oven, range.

gas bill is $25 in summer and $140 in january.

i guess it's $100 for heat in winter and $100 for cool in summer.

Lowest (November last year): $39
Highest (July this year): $64

Everything is electric except the oven/stove. Tankless water heater has a gas hookup but... I don't really know about it. Gas bill is about $18-$25/month consistently.

House: small center townhouse, lights are all LED. AC set to 77/73 day/night, and heat is set to 64.

Electric only stacked condo (approx.)
$80-$140 per month in the summer
Up to $350 per month in the winter.

Temperature is around 74F 24/7 year round

^ forgot to mention: most of our electrical cost is the heating in the winter and our water heater (hound child went from daily bath to shower every other day, which has lowered our bill).

I just got a $340 electric bill for a 1600 sq ft house but my home is 100 years old and the insulation is terrible.

I just got one for $600. Summer a/c in a large, old house with terrible insulation and windows.

Wow. We peak at about $400/month in summe, and we ahve an 8,000 sqft house with 4 A/C units (zoned system). But it's relatively new with really good insulation and windows, and very efficient A/C units (variable speed)

Good lord. Similarly aged house (middle rowhouse), similar size, but bill was 1/5th of yours. What is your AC set to?!

Wow, is your unit radiating heat to your colder A/C neighbors?

You think 77 on a 101 degree day is too hot? Are you obese?

Thanks for creating this thread, it’s gonna motivate me to do something.

3500 sq ft 1970s house, probably poorly sealed, all lights are led, teenagers so we do a ton of laundry and run the dishwasher every other day. 1980s era air conditioner. We hit $900 last bill.

Cost per KWh has gone up a lot. Even though our energy usage was about the same as previous hot summers (we keep the thermostat to 76, 78 on very hot days), the bill was over $300 for a 1,200 sqft old house with a basement.

We're getting quotes to replace our 21 yo HVAC and really want to go heat pump however, in past 7 years, it's always been cheaper to heat the house with gas than cool with electric, but the price for dual fuel heat-pump is about the same as HVAC. But I wonder how much more expensive it will be to run compared to gas on days between 30-55 degrees...

We moved into an all-electric house with well water a few months ago. The windows are old and single-pane, house is 2400 square ft. The electric bill has been around $275-300 per month. We keep the AC at 74. The house has oil heat so that should be a fun revelation.

On dual fuel systems you can set the temp where it switches between heat pump and furnace for heating.

How do people have a $65 electric bill in the summer? AC not electric?

I have a 2,400 SQ ft house and summer electric bill is about $150, maybe $200.
