ECNL & GA clubs with two teams

Anonymous
DDs club has two teams in ECNL.
The team has suffered a couple of injuries that will put our roster size at 12 going into the first weekend of games.

We have games coming up and no mention of moving kids up from the second team or even ECRL.

When is the final date that players can be added to first team?

rosters don't lock, they can be added at any time throughout the season, or are you asking if you have a game saturday, when do they need to be added by to play that weekend?

Thank you. Yes, I was just curious if and when rosters lock…but it appears they are open until right before playoffs.

We will most likely need to add for this weekends games and maybe even permanently.

Both GA and ECNL clubs with 2 top teams view the teams as separate entities. This is important because if they're separate entities there's rules around when players can move between the teams.

Think of the 2 teams as separate clubs.

This is done so clubs can't move players from team to team week after week for wins.

In tournaments (not associated with GA or ECNL) clubs with 2 top GA or ECNL teams will move players around team to team for wins.

That is my understanding as well.
It would be unfair for other clubs.

My assumption is that a final roster would have to be set before first game? Or would they have to be added in as guest players until they decide that they want to move them permanently

In GA since there isn't an official 2nd tier all players from different leagues could play with a GA team as a guest player.

With ECNL you can have 2 discovery players per team that are from clubs outside of ECNL. ECNL and ECRL are technically the same pool so they can be interchanged whenever a club wants to.

I don't know how clubs with a single ECRL team would interact with 2 ECNL teams. Is the ECRL team only able to switch with one ECNL team or both?

What clubs have 2 ECNL teams? I feel like that defeats the purpose of ECNL being elite, doesn't it? I get the clubs having RL. But what clubs have 2 actual ecnl teams??? I have younger players. Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question to you vet parents.

I’m in Boston, but we have FC Stars with two teams (plus three Regional teams). I’m sure areas with a bigger soccer population have this, too.

Is there a cut off to move players from TEAM 2 to TEAM 1? It seems unfair to local competition for players to move frequently.

Yes it follows the same rules as a player moving from Club A to Club B.
