DH grew up in a house where you were awakened if you fell asleep on the couch. Anytime of day, no one was allowed to sleep on the couch. He’s carried this rule with him and it has always annoyed me.He can’t resist waking the person to tell them to go up to their room.
The other annoying couch rule he has lived by is no legs/feet on the couch. I am a person who sits on their legs when sitting on the couch so again, this one irritated me, still does. I can’t break my habit, it’s too comfortable. I admit that I do sit like this at other peoples homes on their couches, and as I type this I do wonder, does this bother them? I grew up in a house where we often slept the entire night on the couch or lazy-boy. That wasn’t abnormal in my house . I realize we were both at opposite ends of the spectrum but did your house have couch”rules”?do you currently? |
| Would your husband feel better if the couch were leather? Now that I stop to think about it, I don't know if I'd want feet on a fabric couch, but I've always had leather couches and always put my feet up on them. The no sleeping on couches is weird, unless it's because he wants to prevent a crick in the sleeper's neck or something. |
| No jumping on the couch. |
| Live a Sat/Sun afternoon nap on the couch. Your husband is too rigid |
| Stop sitting like that at other peoples' houses ffs. |
| What is the point of a couch if you can't relax on it? |
| Sounds like you have a husband problem |
We have this rule, and the dog is only allowed on the couch if she's called up there (and she has to get up when the person leaves). We don't allow shoes on the couch, either. I'm currently sitting cross-legged on the couch, and I napped here earlier today. |
| You should not be putting your feet on other people’s couches. Yuck. |
| I was with you until you said you do this at other people's houses. |
| Don’t people nap on the couch? |
|
Napping on the couch is one of life’s joys. The only rule I have is no shoes on the couch.
Your husband sounds very rigid. The couch serves you guys, not the other way around! |

No sleeping on your own couch is so bizarre.
I don't see what the problem is with feet if you're wearing socks. I wouldn't do it other than at my house or a close relative's, though. |
| Naps on couch are amazing. Feet on your own couch are fine. Keep your feet off of other people's couches unless it's like, your childhood home and everyone there does it too. |
|
No shoes on the couch, no dogs on the couch.
But please nap and put your legs/feet up. We area comfortable household. We let people sleep and try to be respectful of each other, regardless of age. |
