Very Easily lost weight

I have lost 50 pounds. Calorie deficit is key and that is achieved by swimming a little over an hour a day non-stop. Burns at least 1000 calories.

Great. I’m glad that is working for you.

Swimming for an hour doesn’t burn quite 1000 calories…more like 700. And most people find that swimming for an hour dramatically increases their hunger and have trouble not increasing their food to accommodate that. But if that isn’t true for you, that’s terrific.

Teacher on summer break.
I was part of a study group for 6 weeks. We were given 200 ml of daily NaCl + Vitamin C infusion intravenously while consuming a strict diet of 1200 Kcalories per day. There was also a 45 minute daily aqua aerobics. I only lost 8.5 lbs while the average of the group was 22 lbs. This certainly proves that genetics and metabolism is a big factor in losing weight beyond calories in and calories out.

Calories in Calories Out works, but everyone's base TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) differs.

An hour of cardio every day is also very good for your heart.

The average person needing to lose 50 pounds is very unlikely to be able to swim continuously for an hour. Most people don’t have that sort of swimming background. A pro triathlete who is doing 1:20/100 for an hour straight might go through 800 calories. Maybe.

Well sorry for the quibbles but congratulations! Best wishes for a lighter, fitter future!

I do think someone who needs to lose 50 pounds doing laps for an hour with no background in swimming is pretty likely to hurt themselves.

If you are flailing about and your stroke is terrible you might burn more calories but you also might drown or have a heart attack

I can’t do laps because of arthritis in my shoulder, but I can tread water with active aerobic exercises for an hour + easily and I need to lose more than 50 pounds. I call it vertical swimming. I can also hike for two or more hours.

Boy, this thread is a downer, most of you PPs.

Good for you, OP!

The title is “very easily lost weight” and the premise is dumb and false. So we have that.

Both of these are way less taxing than doing the breast stroke for an hour straight

Yeah, it's a fantastic accomplishment for the OP. Seriously impressive/inspirational with respect to consistency, effort, and results. But swimming for an hour wasn't what I was expecting to see on a "very easily" thread.

Are you sure about 1200 KCalories? typo? That is starvation low especially with aqua aerobics.
