Explain Period Swimsuits

Anonymous

So I am getting conflicting information from other moms. I was told that the competition style period suits can be worn while a girl is on her period and has not mastered tampons. But then another mom told me that once they get wet from swimming they don't "work" and it is no different than a regular suit.

So what is the deal with these things?

I just thought you needed a few people who have no experience with them to come by and say they are gross, so *raises hand* - I'm here.

Are you a man?

Pretty regressive.

NP - I totally agree with PP. I'm not a man, nor am I regressive. I don't find them sanitary.

I've never tried one, but I can't imagine they absorb blood after absorbing water. I think learning tampons is really important.

I will say I don't have experience. But this concept does seem to me a lot like "swim diapers". Are the leg holes very tight to keep clumps from floating out?! I also do not understand.

They work well and don’t leak. You just need the right absorbency.

My daughter likes it. It is better than what a lot of girls are doing now, not using tampons and wearing normal suits. Apparently that is a thing now.

I guess I don't believe/see how they can work. Similar to swim diapers - everyone knows the pee gets out, right? (Hopefully they do keep in the poop).

Well - this would fit with my disbelief that period suits actually work! Turns out, if you are not bleeding heavily it just blends in with the pool water . . . .kind of like the pee leaking from the swim diapers!

Omg people need to start using cups. They were life changing for me.

More than a dozen metals — including lead and arsenic — showed up in a broad array of tampons sold across the U.S. and Europe, raising concerns about menstruation products used by millions, a recent study found.
