State of DC Politics

Over the last two months, the "crime bro coalition" (for lack of a better term), has lost the W4 primary, W6 recall attempt, and have all but conceded the W1 recall. There doesn't seem to be any actual real push or desire for change. I know I'd like a new mayor in 2026, but how do others see the winds shifting the next two years?

It is all smoke and mirrors till the current USAO is replaced

Our best home is for Harris to appoint Bowser to some low level HUD type position so the city can get a new Mayor sooner than later.

The best hope is for either presidential candidate to replace Graves, who clearly does not care about violent crime in DC.

Without the current US attorney being replaced DC is doomed.

Best hope if for Trump to win and the Republicans win both houses and take over running DC. Total morons running show now.

A Trump victory would actually be good for DC. It's the only way to replace the Biden appointees at the USAO's office. Until the USAO is replaced, violent criminals will continue to walk free in DC. That's where the main problem lies. Interestingly, Matthew Graves also represented foreign banks that were financing terrorism - Bank of Palestine, Bank of Beirut etc. And he represented Gasprom and Russian oligarchs. The man is scum.

Bowser rose to power as a protégée of Marion Barry. She inherited what remains of Barry’s once all-powerful DC political machine.

She represents the same dysfunctional “leadership” Barry inflicted on DC.

I think the “crime bros” impacted policy in that it’s no longer tenable to supress discussion of crime and to accuse people who bring up crime of being liars. It also broke the chokehold of the fringe activists who managed to actually cancel people who voiced concerne about crime. So that’s good. But to the extent SOME “crime bros” are now blathering about a Control Board, they are being unmasked as simple GOP operatives.

No one actually gets appointed from DC, there are too many governors and mayors of major cities to ever get to a DC mayor. That's before Bowser and the council come up with some more extremist policy that makes the national news and freaks out moderate voters in key voting states.

The bond rating and general economy disagree with you.

There is an issue with crime that the US Attorney can address.

Commercial real estate is taking a hit post COVID - that is true in cities worldwide. It will take some time to shake that out.

???

She rose in the shadow of Adrian Fenty and was the chosen successor of "the green team" when Fenty flamed out.

Everyone had to pay homage to Barry on a city wide campaign.
