DD has dyslexia which has been remediated. Tests in gifted range for verbal and visual-spatial, struggles in math. Any thoughts on our list of schools to explore? We’re looking for a unicorn school with faculty and staff who understand that you can be bright AND have dyslexia.

This is not an unusual profile at all. All these schools will be used to it.
SSFS is a mess right now though. |

I’d take SSFS off your list
Add Good Counsel. They have a dedicated Ryken program for students with mild to moderate learning differences. You can take Ryken classes in subjects in which you need more support and standard, honors, AP in subjects in which you excel. Some of the other schools you mentioned don’t have dedicated programs for 2E kids but may just be places where they can meet their needs - ex. Holy Child. It doesn’t have a separate program but has a lot of academic support. |
| Thanks for the responses! I wasn’t sure about GC because their Ryken program with separate classes seems more for LD kids who don’t test in the gifted range, but I’ll investigate further. |
| Can anyone elaborate on what's going on with SSFS? |

They need more support than kids who don't need a dedicated program, but that doesn't say anything about their IQs. If you want others to recognize that you can have LDs and be gifted, you need to do the same. |
There’s a 50 page thread on it. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1215484.page |
This isn’t true. My son is 2E and in the Ryken program at GC. It has been a most incredible experience for him. He is beginning junior year with a 4.0 GPA and will be in honors and an AP course. He will only take a Ryken class for Physics and Spanish (due to the language path they take). He will be in NHS this year and a peer tutor. Honestly, it’s a phenomenal program. |
I think you quoted/responded to the wrong post. What isn’t true? |
My response about the Ryken program belonged here not in response to the SSFS post. Apologies. My son is 2E and is thriving in Ryken with a 4.0, etc |
To the OP, my son has a very similar profile. Good luck to you, sounds like you are a great advocate for your child!

| Why isn’t McLean on your list? |

So happy your son has found a good fit! Is there any stigma to being in the program since some of the classes are separate? |
