Men's fashion - what shoes with shorts?

Anonymous
DH asked because he could tell his outfit didn't work, but I am not sure what to advise. He needs a casual shoe of some kind to wear with shorts and a button-down shirt. He strongly prefers to wear socks with his shoes (no sandals).

Boat shoe? Sneaker? He has some slip-on Skechers but those didn't look right -- not rigid enough, they looked like slippers.

Well socks are the problem. They only work with very stylized looks.
Socks are great with high tops and shorts but that's probably not his vibe.

Loafers with no show socks, there are some that you cannot see at all.

Boat shoes or sneakers. My husband wears sneakers - usually something like converse or onitsuka - and low socks. Boat shoes are lined with soft leather and meant for going sock-less, so they’re possibly more comfortable than your DH expects (assuming he hasn’t worn them before).

My husband wears dirty clod-hopperish old sneakers with socks that go up about 3" past his ankles.

So I can't help, lol.

More stylish sneakers like adidas originals (gazelle, sambas, stan smiths), common projects, vejas, Hogan, Tod's

Adidas Stan Smith's - my DH gets an odd amount of compliments when he wears them

Stylish/vintage looking sneakers. DH has onitsuka tigers that get endless compliments from sneaker people. He just thought they were the most comfortable of what we tried from Zappos.

Drivers is the correct answer here.

As mentioned, definitely drivers with a button-down. The key is that the shoe shouldn't be an exact match with skin color AND not significantly darker. Just one or two shades darker so they don't look barefoot.

Also, he has to get used to no socks, or maybe the super low socks if you can't see them. When I see guys with those Peds sorts of sock peeking out I think uptight.

Driving shoes (like Tod’s) with no-show socks

I don’t know what Peds socks are but how is having to have a very particular shade of shoes not uptight?

I have a weakness for Onitsika and all things ASICS, personally; it’s all I wear unless I’m going to work.

If they are higher end ones you can skip the socks. Just don't wear them in heavy rotation and get regular pedicures.
