Bread s/o

Anonymous
I've baked homemade bread from time to time. Had a great aunt who always had homemade white bread in her house, she'd put it out toasted to spread with honey (a beekeeper had hives on her farm), and it was divine.

Is there a recipe for homemade white bread that doesn't dry out and fall apart so quickly?

Yes. Get a bread book. Baking bread is one of the great joys in life. Take the time to master it.

I’m a busy mom and I just use the basic recipe that came in the booklet with my bread machine. If the goal is just homemade bread made with known, fresh ingredients, then a bread machine is the perfect solution in my opinion.

I do like making it by hand, but feeding a family of five I have to rely on modern methods.

I have a bread machine and could still never make it come out right, even with the included recipe.

PP here. My machine actually makes a smaller loaf too so we always finish it before it gets dried out. I just store the loaf in a big Tupperware on our counter. If you understand what you are doing with bread, it’s easy to make the kind you like best. In our house we want soft sandwich bread, so that’s what I make most often. My little kids don’t appreciate artesian sourdough, they just want basic white bread for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

When people say they can’t get the bread machine to work, it’s often because they added the ingredients in the wrong order. I bet if you read the manual for that specific mode and then followed the given recipe it would work. It certainly takes a lot of guess work out of bread making for me.

I make pizza dough in it weekly too! I don’t mean to derail this thread but they are amazing machines if you get the hang of it.

The white sandwich bread in America's Test Kitchen cookbook is really easy and super delicious. Their recipes are all under copyright so I can't share, but that cookbook is worth purchasing.

I also love this recipe.

I love making homemade bread but I don’t have a bread machine. I’ve never made white bread but King Arthur bread is great place to get started. Every recipe I’ve tried has turned out and you can even ask a question which will be answered.

I make my own breads, too, from pitas to pizza to regular loaves to tortillas. With bread machine or standing mixer or just by hand. Busy single mom to three kids. Taught my kids to make the NYT no-knead bread.

This was helpful. Thanks.

I don't like how hard the crust is on this. Maybe I should get a bread machine, but they take up so much space.

If you’re interested in gluten free, the book “baked to perfection” has the best gf sandwich loaf recipe I’ve found (and burger buns), I’ve tried about 200.

Baking bread is really easy once you find your method. It’s 4-5 ingredients and takes about 15 min of actual time, the rest is proofing, baking and cooling.
