There is a man who has pitched a tent over by the animal hospital at the corner of Seneca and Georgetown Pike. He is a known schizophrenic with a long documented history of violence (through police record). He has stated to police, etc. that he is there stalking an ex-girlfriend who works at the vet. The girl has tried to get a restraining order - denied by Fairfax County. The Sunoco/711 has forced him to leave the piece of land they own but he simply moved to the VDOT owned land and the county, again, doesn’t seem to care. The police, along with a social worker, had been there to speak with him but it’s gotten nowhere so far. Police of course are VERY concerned but have their hands tied by the county. They did tell the guy he needs to remove the word “slut” from his handmade sign he’s hung. Yesterday when I drove by, he was dancing half-naked. He’s been also swinging a large flat board, and has wandered over to the shopping plaza across Georgetown Pike. Great Falls Association is now on board and trying to help.
I think it’s disgraceful that a young girl has to endure this because the county is allowing him to camp and stalk her. He does have a place of residence he can go to. He’s stated that he’s specifically there to stalk her. The attorney general of VA has been notified and they are very concerned. Given the liberalism of Fairfax County, you would expect that people in government would be concerned for this young girl. Aren’t liberal for women? Instead, they seem to be on the side of the stalker. |

Great Falls Citizen's association among others. They plan to make a public statement today on their site. I personally called the local police who confirmed it and told me point blank the county is tying their hands. |

Sounds like the lack of a restraining order is the problem, right? It's not "the county" writ large.
I'm not defending him, I'm trying to narrow the issue to something specific. Why wasn't the restraining order granted? Would it be granted if she tried again now? |
Lost credibility with this source! The stalking angle is new. Previous complaints were just that a homeless person was in the area. |

I’ll be looking for the statement, op! |
| You've got to know how the system works to be minimally protected, OP. The victim needs a good lawyer, who can get her a restraining order, and pressure the county to use trespass, homelessness policies or other rules in their rulebook to push the stalker out from their property. The county's interpretation of free speech protections seems to be getting in the way here, from your limited description. This would happen in a Republican area, too, so stop it with the politicization. |

Live in GF and have seen this man camped on the corner for a few weeks. He also can be quite scary in that he will stand at the nearby corner crosswalk and bang loudly on the street light pole with a long metal stick.
Long thread on local Next Door with reference to the alleged issue with the former girlfriend. Avoiding the immediate area for now. |
You’re totally dismissing op’s concerns because you don’t like the people discussing the issue? So do you not believe the guy exists? Not believe he’s stalking the ex-gf? Not believe that the county officials aren’t helping? |
| Yup this sounds like Fairfax county. The sent a social worker to a shooting that other day and they still ended up dead. SMH. |
I believe he exists but not the new stalking allegation because I have heard complaints about the homeless man for a few weeks without mentioning of stalking. |
| The gfca’s crazy take on the boundary and their behavior at the board meeting yakes away their credibility. |

The OP lost support when they insinuated that the area's politics contributed to the victimization of the young woman. This is why some posters are attacking her, reflexively, because any discussion of politics inflames this board instantly.
If the OP has just presented the facts, with links to reliable sources, the discussion would be very different. Stalking is has always been a problem in every country, and no community has ever done enough, anywhere, to protect the victims, who are usually women. Femicide is a serious risk here. |
It's on Next Door |

You don't need a lawyer to get a restraining order. That's obviously the first step here.
This is a free country, including freedom to be an ahole. |
