Best elementary schools in Fairfax county?

Anonymous
I am moving to NoVA soon and would like to pick from homes that are in a good school district. If anyone can post the names of good elementary schools in Fairfax or closely surrounding counties, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

It is probably easier to say which schools to avoid....most of the FFX schools are excellent...

In the northern half of FFX, the Vienna schools are all good to excellent (all excellent with the possible exception of Cunningham Park, which is still very good). In reston, I would avoid Dogwood ES

How about we start with the county/city you are considering. And you want to look at not just the elementary schools, but the middle and high schools they feed to.

And the advice above was pretty good. Fairfax County is one of the best overall districts in the nation.

I am looking in Burke, and Springfield. I found a home that says it's in Springfield, and the elementary school is Crestwood.

Thanks!

Right now the feeder schools are not as important. Thanks!

OP I live in Springfield and I would LOVE if my kid could go to any of these elementary schools: Orange Hunt, Sangster, West Springfield, or Hunt Valley.

Thant being said, I grew up in Fairfax County and would be happy with almost any school out here. I know my kids will get a great education no matter which school they go to. My preference for those schools mainly have to do with the neighborhoods around them. They are some of my favorite in the area and also have some of the highest rated schools in the county.

This is the FCPS profile for Crestwood (you can find information on boundaries, demographics and test scores):

How about those ES in McLean, such as Chesterbrook, Haycock, Churchill RD and Kent Gardens? We are moving to NOVA too and are considering McLean based on schools and proximity to DC.

West Springfield Elementary is really great. It is one of the smaller elementary schools.

Maple St. is very congested. I'm glad I live in Oakton.

I think you should go around and look for yourself as well. What someone else may think ii "great" may be a nightmare to you. I was HORRIFIED at how overcrowded these schools are! We are actually moving out of FFC because of the overcrowding problem. They have large classrooms. Our child was about to start highschool and they have a 25-30 student per classroom. That is way too high for me! I think 'best" should be in what you are looking for with your child and their education. I haven't been too impressed since moving here. I don't see the extra money we pay to live here is worth it. This is just my two cents, so take it for what it is worth. I think the only way to know for sure is to personally visit some schools, look at the classrooms, ask them any specific questions that you have, etc.

Good luck!

You think 25-30 is a lot for a public high school classroom? Where did you live before that had smaller public high school classes? I thought that was about average.
