fcps 25-26 calendar

Do we know if this is set in stone? They start really early that year (August 18) and end really late (June 17). This seems like a really poor schedule with so many days off.

Yes, three years worth of calendars were approved by SB

How’s that much different than what we are doing this year 2024-25? This is the schedule now.

This year's schedule is terrible as well

Slowly working toward year round schooling with no weeks where children go all 5 days.

I’m assuming the school board thinks it is more equitable that way so no one has to pay for summer camp.

Actually, they probably just don’t think of the schedule at all because they are so focused on the boundary crap.

The only people focused on the boundaries are DCUM and the Fairfax times

Not the school board? May want to check with them and the staff before making such an obviously incorrect assertion.

We end a week later next school year. This school year and next we end the second Wednesday of June. The 25-26 school year it’s the third Wednesday, even though we start at the same time. There are a lot of extended weekends that school year. Memorial Day and Eid are close, for example, so they’re closed Monday through Wednesday that week.

The new school board needs to throw out the 25/26 calendar and replace it with one that ends the first week of june.

Going 3 weeks into june is unacceptable. It prevents high school students from participating in most summer programs, which are designed for a traditional school calendar ending around memorial day. June is completely wasted time, because all the worthwhile instruction ends with AP exams in May

Why is this county so bad at electing competent, moderate school board members??

The 2025-2026 calendar is ridiculous.

Give Eid off by ending the year the Friday before Memorial day.

No one is going to attend school for a 2 day week in May. My kid is a senior that year. I will just let her skip those 2 wasted days.

June 11 is kids’ last day. After that is just teacher work days etc

That’s the 24-25 school year. The 25-26 calendar ends on June 17.

Loudon has a very similar start and end date for the 25-26 school year (as does Arlington, though they start a full week later) so it isn’t just an FCPS problem.

The justification for moving the start date to mid August from labor day was that the school year would end early June, shortly after AP exams.

Extending the school year back to the end of June is unacceptable.

The school board should fix this calendar instead of focusing on controversial things like rezoning.
