| We're flying in United Premium Plus from IAD to Tokyo, and they are offering an upgrade to Polaris for 30K miles+$450 per ticket. Is that typical? Is it a good deal? The cash upgrade would cost $4,500. |
| I'm not sure if it's a good deal, but if you can fly Polaris for a flight of anything >8 hours, I would. |
| 30k miles translates roughly to $300 in airfare so that's $750 per person. I've paid $800 for the upgrade to London so I'd absolutely pay $750 to Tokyo. |
| I would take that in a heartbeat |
Is that a confirmed upgrade? Or gets you in the wait-list? |
| Great deal |
| That’s to get on the waitlist, not a guaranteed upgrade. But if you paid cash for premium plus tickets you’ll be first on the waitlist, so the upgrade should clear unless you have a bunch of business travelers on the flight. |
| Yes absolutely worth it. Go to the Polaris lounge and eat in the half w/ waiter service, too |
Have to imagine a route like this will have a large number of high level elites, personally I think it's doubtful OP will actually clear the upgrade. |
|
That's the standard price, but probably will put you on the waitlist - it'll tell you when you select the upgrade if it is confirmed or waitlisted.
Depending on your date of travel, status and fare level, it may be an impossible upgrade so don't get your hopes up. |
| I’d grab that in a heartbeat. |
|
OP here. This isn't for the waitlist. It's to buy. It was waitlist yesterday buy letting me buy today.
Does it change your mind if this us for 6 of us...4 kids and 2 adults (kids ages 6-14). And this is for one way, not round trip. |
If it doesnt wreck all your budget then I’d absolutely go for it. It makes the entire 14 hours so much more enjoyable |
The only thing I’d say in that case is the polaris seats are mostly designed for privacy (sometimes there is a middle pair that works for couples) so if you and your six yo want to be in line of sight with each other all the time it might not be the best. Especially because you are probably getting last choice of seats. |
Wow. Take it. That’s how much it is sometimes just to get on the waitlist. |
