“ If Messi was American with the same talent level I am not sure I would be confident enough to say he would have been given the same chances he got in both Argentina and Barcelona due to the fact that he was very small. Modric being the other. #USMNT”

| Freddy Adu was pretty small too. |

I have said that for years. Totally agree.
I have late bloomers and it was all about size. 18-year old is now playing professionally, but just got on a top team 1-year before after years of having to move around for development and getting the shaft. |
| Stating facts. Youth soccer in the US is all about size. Sad, but skill and real ballers get overlooked if they have not bloomed yet. It might work in the short term, yet the long term won't cut it. |

He has a point, Colleges, ECNL, MLS Next and GA top teams seem to prefer to pick bigger & faster kids typically. I've seen 1st hand girls who could be 100m track stars show up and automatically make ECNL teams and yet they have very poor ball control.
But, here we are calling little Cavin Sullivan the next Messi and he is already signed a pro contract and follow-on Man City contract. |
| 100% agree with him. |
| Freddy knows because he was on the other end of the spectrum originally. Freddy was an early bloomer who stopped growing once entering MLS. Him pointing this out gives it even more credence because he knows damn well that he was given chances because he hit puberty early. Also, keep in mind, that in their late teens to early 20's...Freddy had a hire FIFA ranking than Messi. #fact |

Maybe but in a country that prioritizes other sports over soccer, he may have never played soccer in the first place.
I have always thought this debate was a poor one. Top athletes play football, basketball, and baseball before soccer. If the top 100 players alone in either football or basketball grew up playing soccer instead, we would have a dynasty. Imagine Lebron James in goal and Tyreek Hill as an attacking CM. Oh hell…NFL edition is soccer was top sport in US. GK - AJ Brown CB - Micah Parsons CB- Travis Kelce LB - Christian Mcaffrey RB - Antoine Winfield Jr HCM - Lamar Jackson or Mahomes ACM - Tyreek Hill LW - Ceedee Lamb RW - Deebo Samual ST - Justin Jefferson ST - Devante Adams |
Stop, just stop. You are everything that is wrong with American soccer...thinking that 6'6" 260 lbs guys are going to dominate against Messi, di Maria and others is just embarrassing yourself. |
Tell me you know nothing about the NFL without telling me. They all aren’t 6’6”. I think Kelce is the only one that is that tall. Everyone else is 6’2 or less except Mahomes. I picked these on purpose for that very reason alone genius. Who is the one of the most respected CBs in the game? Van Dyk. 6’5” to Kelce 6’6. Kelce would win every time in a foot race and in physically. Ronaldo 6’2 to Jefferson at 6’1”. Just some examples. If these NFL players would have played soccer from a young age, we would be dominant just like in Basketball. It’s not rocket science. |
| Oh, no problem subbing out Kelce for any number of wide receivers, running backs or Free Safety(s) if you are strictly worried about how tall somebody is at CB. I hate Kelce anyway. |
|
Soccer is more than just being an athlete you should at least know that
It’s not a 1 to 1 comparison. Just cause they are elite at football doesn’t mean they would have become elite at soccer |
| Michael Phelps for GK! |
| 100% agree with him. |
You, sir, are an idiot. |
