Going there for work and will have some time to kick around.
What should I do? |
|
Where are you staying?
If it's nice out, go walk around the lakes in uptown minneapolis (Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet) Walker Art Museum Minnehaha Falls shopping on 50th & France in Edina North Loop https://northloop.org/ |
| They put us up near the “Pantages Theater.” Never been to Minneapolis before, kind of interested to see what it is like. -OP |

The Walker Art Museum has a special Keith Haring exhibit. It has good reviews:

| Paisley Park! |
|
Minnehaha Trail, Lake Calhoun, Hewes hotel
Rooftop for drinks, Eat Street and Minneapolis institute of art. |
| Has anyone even to paisley park for real? What’s it like? |
|
Try to get a walk-in table at Owamni (their outdoor-and maybe bar?-seating is first come, first served). Across the street, St Anthony Falls and the locks are neat.
Kramarczuk’s is a great atmospheric Ukranian deli. The Museum of Russian Art & Swedish Institute are fun small museums. Agree with the chain of lakes recommendations—Lake Harriett and Lake of the Isles are prettier, IMO. Former Lake Calhoun is now Bde Maka Ska. |
I have and it's awesome. I'm a huge Prince fan. It's fairly far out into the burbs, so you need a car or long uber ride. You tour the studio, see his office, see some costumes, and the tour ends in a big auditorium where they still hold community events. Very glad to have seen it. |
You are right downtown. It really depends on what you like to do. Parks, the Walker art center, the three sports stadiums are all within walking distance, First Ave (and others) for concerts. It is also easy to hop on the light rail and go to Mall of America. |
| If you have maybe a couple of hours before dinner and just want a walk nearby, a nice walk is to go to the Mill City Museum, then down to the Stone Arch bridge across the Mississippi. Then back east along the north side of the river- a few good places there to stop for coffee or a snack. Then back across the river on the Hennepin Ave bridge. Nice walk along and across the river. |
|
I like the Mill city museum and the walker art gallery and sculpture garden are also nice. The Guthrie is doing little shop of horrors right now if you like theatre.
If you’re staying downtown, I would focus on river walks rather than bothering with the lakes (I love the lakes and run by them several times a week but the river is also great). I agree with Owamni recommendation or cafe Alma across the river is also good. Former lake Calhoun was renamed Bde Maka Ska a while ago, so that’s what you should call it. |

I live in Mpls. All this is near you -
Try to dine at Spoon & Stable or Owamni! Or Zen Box for casual. Definitely check out the Guthrie Theatre - you don’t have to see a show, but go for the view of the river. Also, Mill City Museum. Walk across Stone Arch Bridge to St Anthony Main area for a cocktail at Aster Cafe. |
| My husband did the Paisley Park tour -- he still talks about it 5+ years later. it sounds awesome but takes a lot of time. |
So boring! It’s across the street from a General Mills plant in a suburb. |
