The fact that they haven't entirely pinned down the culprit worries me a bit. But I also want a sandwich. |
Don't risk it. Too dangerful. |
Avoid deli meat in general because it is super unhealthy. |
No, but we don’t really eat deli meat and no one in our house is pregnant or infirm. |
It’s not the packaged store deli meat that was implicated. It was meat cut at the deli counters. Turkey and liverwurst. |
Never heard of it. |
Google is your friend. |
Two deaths linked to listeria food poisoning from meat sliced at deli counters Md. and Va. among 12 states affected by listeria outbreak linked to deli meat Of the people investigators have been able to interview, “89% reported eating meats sliced at a deli, most commonly deli-sliced turkey, liverwurst, and ham. Heat the meat up first. Then eat your sandwich. |
No. I avoid deli meat because it's not particularly healthy. |
we're heating it up on the stove. |
Yes, we are avoiding it for now.
My teen and I got subs last week without knowing. It was fine. I was going to make deli sandwiches this week for lunches but crossed it off the list when I learned of it. We had BLTs instead and are just eating other things. Not worth it and I don't crave deli meat, really. |
We get in-house roasted turkey breast sliced to order at Whole Foods.
But they don't sterilize the slicer between orders, obviously. So I am worried about cross contamination from the Applegate turkey, etc. DH ate some for lunch. He heated it a little in microwave but I don't think it was 160f. I didn't eat any. What to do? He only eats turkey and Swiss on ww for lunch. Like for 20 years. Makes it himself. |
I don't eat much deli meat, but my elderly parents do. As another person said, they have a routine, and it involves having sandwiches with deli meat for lunch every day. 've tried to emphasize that they need to heat the meat and let it cool before eating. I hope they are taking my advice. For our family, we'll probably just not buy anything from the deli counter for a while. |
The roasted turkey breast I buy says it is antibiotic free, all natural and the ingredients are turkey, water, salt, and rosemary extract. What makes this unhealthy? |
