Is it flirting?

Anonymous
I asked a cashier what his arm tattoo said (it was not in English). My friend who was with me later tells me, you know that’s considered flirting. I’m married. It never even crossed my mind. I was genuinely interested in the tattoo. I am friendly with people generally and will chat it up with cashiers, shoppers, most about anyone who is friendly. Is it flirting if the other person is of the opposite gender?

No. Is your friend Mike Pence’s wife?

Asking about a tattoo is not flirting.

Not flirting.

Not flirting but also an unnecessary question.

It's not flirting, at all. It's actually considered an inappropriate question in tattoo communities.

Tattoo people don’t want to be asked about what their tattoos mean? That’s not been my experience at all.

it's noisy.

Not flirting. I would do the same. And it’s not inappropriate in ‘tattoo communities’ lol.0

https://www.quora.com/Why-do-non-tattooed-people-feel-it-is-ok-to-ask-tattooed-people-what-their-tattoos-mean

"I generally give people a pass and politely explain that my tattoos are for ME , that some have meaning, that some are there merely because I find them beautiful, and that generally speaking tattooed people do NOT wish to discuss their tattoos with others. If they persist after that, the conversation tends to go down hill very quickly"

Ugh, I hate people like you who think they're "friendly" - what you are is holding up the line for the people behind you.

SAME! You're literally making everyone day's worse but having to wait on your stupid chit chat about tattoos of all things.

Not flirting.

I'm 45, female. I recently asked a guy about sandwich meat or cheese he was buying and he looked weirdly uncomfortable and his wife or GF looked somewhat hostile/annoyed. People are weird these days.

Many tattooed people dislike this question. Just because you are a nosy nancy asking everyone and their dog about sh*t that's none of your business doesn't mean people don't notice or get annoyed by it.

Don't ask people about tattoos after they learned what "permanent" means, and regret it, but are too lazy to do anything about it, lol.

If you turn your body into a billboard, you're going to get attention. If you don't want that, don't be an idiot.
