Having family and friends in Western Europe I see the right-leaning sentiment growing...thoughts?

| Well both the UK and France have just elected leftist governments so I’m not sure what you’re talking about? |

In 2023, Poland tossed out the right wing Law and Justice party in favor of a centrist pro-EU coalition government.

| UK and France were already right, much further right than the US, and just moved more centrist. |
In France the center-left party made deals with Communists to keep the right out of power. |

The main rightward shift is about immigration. And coming from the left, I understand it.
Many immigrants to Europe are bringing their religious conservative values with them, which clash with Western liberal values of gender equality. Also, unfettered immigration is straining the national healthcare systems and other programs that the left values. I agree with this. I am in favor of social programs, but they must be funded by everyone collectively paying into the pool. No free rides for illegal immigrants. You can’t have a welfare state and also have open borders. |
and? |
This is true. But other issues are at play too. I’m in France and French leftists think that the American progressives stance on things like identity issues, DEI, and transgenderism is idiotic. |
| Isn’t the US a welfare state with an open border? |
Yes but we can afford it. They cannot. |
No we can’t. Have you seen our debt levels? |
Why don’t libs understand something so basic? |
