Republicans are revving up for a D.C. smackdown

I love this: "House Republicans have many ideas: ban all traffic cameras..."

Elections have consequences. Of course, in DC that phrase is turned on its head as the voters are everyone EXCEPT those in DC.

I’m okay with banning traffic cameras, banning no right on red law, and banning non citizens from voting. I’m sure there are others I won’t like, but I’m fine with those.

You think running red lights in a dense urban environment is okay?

No, did I say that? Do you actually think red light cameras stop cars from running red lights? On my daily commute that passes through many DC neighborhoods with many cameras the answer is no.

So people just pay a fine daily? We have speed cameras on my street. They have dramatically slowed us all down.

I wish the tickets (non payment of tickets) would be enforced through booting, assessing points, losing license..something punitive. I'm OK with putting red light cameras on every single light in DC (I don't run red lights, and if I happen to get "caught between a yellow and red", I can either fight it or pay it). I've never in my life seen such a disregard for traffic rules! I'm over it, and would be perfectly fine with all punitive actions for breaking the law.

As long as it's national. Just taking it out on DC because of our diminished representation is distinctly off.

Speed bumps are a better option that traffic cameras.

"In terms of the percentage accident reduction, however, engineering schemes incorporating vertical deflections (such as speed humps or cushions) offer the largest benefits: at 44%, the average reduction in personal injury accidents attributable to such schemes, is twice that at sites where safety cameras were used..."

The only reason DC prefers traffic cameras is money.

Sorry, but our budget is now more reliant on the revenue from traffic cameras because the CRE bubble has devastated our budget. These cameras generate an enormous amount of tax revenue.

Henderson’s got it. Glad she’s there.

Congress making local traffic enforcement laws makes an absolutely mockery out of federalism.

You can’t put speed bumps on an arterial street. But yes, they work.

Yes, they do. After a few tickets, people stop running those particular lights, particularly when their car gets booted or towed, or a lien is placed on their property.

Guess they're not the party of law and order after all.
