What is a media day?

Anonymous
I see these all over IG. ECNL finals, individual clubs post videos of players doing staged poses with their teams. Who are these intended for? Do the players pay for these?

Clubs have media day to take pictures of players, which they use on their social media to announce, for example, game day, tournament weekends, etc. We do not pay for media day at our club.

It’s for the league or clubs to use to promote themselves. It doesn’t benefit the players other than it might be fun for them. You sign away all your media rights when you join a club. Maybe players should ask for NIL deals with clubs instead of being unpaid models.

Oh, you are paying. It's part of the club fees.

Correct, media day expenses are baked into the club fee.

Media day seems completely worthless.

Absolutely no different than when teams used to have picture day.

Lol, yes it's youth clubs keeping up the facade that your kid is important and what was once called picture day is now (just like the pro teams) called media day. We should probably really rename it Instagram day.

Why are you so miserable?

Media days are important for the players. These days having a social media following is important. It’s how players get on the radar of college coaches and get NIL deals. If people on IG/Tiktok don’t know you, forget about playing in college.
