Recs for international destination during Christmas to New Years week!?

Anonymous
We have rising senior twins and a 9th grader.
We've travelled during this week before---(separate years): Paris, Lisbon, Barcelona.

Can you rec another destination?

Kids have been to London, Paris, Rome, Lisbon, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Hanoi, Bangkok, Santiago.
Asia is probably a bit far for this week.

Thank you!

Rio at New Years is mind-blowing. And no it is not a warzone.

Amsterdam or somewhere in Germany? You obviously don't mind the cold.

Assume you don’t ski? And want a city, not beach? Nature?

You could do Peru - 4 days Sacred Valley, 4 days Amazon.

Finland - Lapland

If you are in Fairfax County, they don't go back until the 6th, so it's more than a week this year, if you are looking to go somewhere further.

I've been to Rio at NYE and many other times during the year. I wouldn't take my teens then. I'd be overwhelmed. And it's so hot and crowded. That'd be a big no from me.

I'd do something Christmasy (if you celebrate) by hitting up one of the Christmas markets either London, Switzerland, or Austria. But I really love Christmas.

IF not, I may consider doing a tour of a place that's overwhelmingly hot during the summer and completely accessible in winter, like Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, or Gulf.

We always ski the Swiss & Italian Alps then with stops in Milan or Venice.

I’ve never gone but people I know who have done the Christmas markets in Germany and Austria said they were amazing. I have a friend who is Jewish who chose to go and still loved them!

Many Christmas markets only operate before Christmas, so if that is a primary purpose you may want to check closing dates as part of your planning.

We had a terrific time in Venice and Florence during this week a couple of years ago.

What about Mexico City, Montreal/Quebec, Lima, Madrid, Amsterdam? FWIW, we are thinking of Mexico City, as I am pretty sure my rising senior will be pushing up against application deadlines at the last minute and I want to minimize time zone changes if that ends up being the case.

McPS break is also longer this year.

Mexico City? Lots to do there.

We went to Costa Rica one year and it was a great time to be there but make your reservations now as it gets really booked that week.

Buenos Aires. Long flight but no jet lag. USD goes far, food is great, lots to see, lots of day trip possibilities. We loved in with teens

Aruba, St John or a nice cruise. Take those kids to a beach already. They’re likely tired of all those busy city vacations.

Your kids have been cooler places than I have - I’m envious!

I was also going to suggest Azores or Siciliy. Mild temps both places, much less crowds.

Tanzania.
