I have heard of teams giving divisionals caps to their swimmers… or have a special social event. Mine seems to be doing nothing. Which is the norm? |
The older kids chalk up the driveways of the divisional swimmers overnight so they wake yo to that. It’s really sweet. But no nothing else.
We have a huge team and between my two swimmers only one of them has gone to divisionals once. It’s a huge honor and that would be enough for them, they wouldn’t need recognition beyond that. Make it about the swimming and not the “stuff” and that’s how kids get intrinsically motivated |
Teams have different traditions, ranging from nothing to...
Posters (very common) TPing Chalking Dinner Caps (very common) Shaving party/pep rally |
Team tradition is a special sign delivered to the yard of each swimmer by asst coaches. |
Our team does posters at the meet, Divisionals caps, and coaches call each swimmer the night before. |
Nothing. |
Wow!! A personal call? That’s pretty special. |
We do a dinner, signs and chalking for the younger kids, and special caps. |
TPing asst coaches homes is a big highlight! |
We do an IMX Time Trial Friday night to get them psyched for Saturday. Unofficial but we compute IMX scores for each kid and it gives them confidence heading into Divisionals. |
🤣🤣🤣🤣 |
Caps
Chalking younger kids driveways Dinner |
Nvsl team that does this. Kids love it and it’s fun bonding for the coaches |
Not for divisionals, but for All Stars we make yard signs and place them in their yards while they are at practice. |
Chalking of driveways and signs for kids on our team. And there is a team lunch after (we do that for all A meets but for divisional they usually reserve part of a restaurant) |
