Which school for this kid

Anonymous
3.8 GPA (which is about avg) at top tier nyc private. 1480 SAT/34 ACT. Debater. Leadership in clubs. Worked summer jobs (this part is kinda interesting). Outgoing and popular but not athletic - concerned about being left out at smaller SLACs with highest # of athletes. Good writer.

No honors or awards.

Humanities - history/philosophy/politics. Movie buff. Maybe wants to teach or law school.

East coast preferred but open.
Size 2k-10k

Full pay if need be.

Okay w ED. He knows the GPA is not great - 9th grade was rough and improved (some) - and he has no
passion project etc

Boy interested in humanities will have a lot of options at SLACs...Vassar? Wesleyan?

I don't he'll have an issue as a full pay humanities dude at most any SLAC. Is he interested in any?

His best options will probably be one of the SLACs. A humanities boy with a 34 and a good NY private is not a terrible hook. But if he doesn't want to go to a small liberal arts college I'd look at WashU, Georgetown, Wake Forest and BC. And I'd apply ED.

he won't get into wash u , gu, or bc. you guys .. there are lots of full pay kids with much better stats.

ed a slac and then ed2 a slac if need be. LORs matter. impress that on him.

Agree with this.

I don't think any of us can really tell you where this kid will get in because we don't know this high school. A 3.8/34 would easily get into BC or GU from my kid's DC private. Wash U would be a touch harder but still possible.

Does the school have a track record of sending to Georgetown or BC? I think he has a shot.
Otherwise Tufts ED. Major in history go to law school.

Sounds like an ideal CMC match/reach if he is actually maybe open (not clear) to California. Ticks all the other boxes, and he gets a bump as he is not a West Coast kid. Put it on the list. If nothing comes through on the East Coast, you will be thrilled that you did. Those kids have ball and make bank when they to NYC after graduating.

I know DCUM folks don't think much of Tulane, but my DS had a similar high school GPA and an interest in writing and film, but with a lower ACT (31) and he is thriving there.

BC actually has a ton of kids who go TO. his SATs are good for them.
