Husband tells me I'm too old to wear wide legged jeans

Anonymous
I've always been into stylish clothing but I'm 57 now. I wore a pair of wide legged jeans (not flared jeans, not ripped jeans) the other day and my DH said "Aren't you a little old for those?" I was irritated. These aren't trendy type of jeans. They look classic. I would pair them with a white linen top and flats or in the winter time a cashmere sweater and leather flats. So at 57 what kind of jeans am I relegated to wear, polyester pants?

Wear what you like. I wore wide legs as a teen in the height of the wide leg 90s and am thrilled they're back!

Wear what you want- I bet you look great and your DH is being an ass.

I'm 54. I've recently seen so many women our age wearing wide-leg jeans, and they look great. He needs to educate himself on what he's talking about.

General rule to never listen to your husband regarding fashion

Seriously! After years of skinny jeans and ugly discomfort, I’m so pleased we’re back in tent levels of fabric in our clothing again. Bring back zoot suits is my vote. And anyway, the wide legs are so much more forgiving to my middle aged child bearing hips than any other pant style of my lifetime.

I wore some like that and a teen complimented them, so I think you can do what you want.

Ugh. This is a husband problem not a jeans problem.

I'm your exact age and just bought some wide legged jeans and am thinking about buying a second pair. I love them. I'm thrilled they're back. Ignore your hubs. Wear what you want.

Here's a story: we're heading to a wedding in a couple weeks and DH told me he didn't love the dress I was planning to wear. Actually, he clarified, he likes the dress, just not the pattern. Good thing he's not wearing it, I told him.

Since when do they know fashion?

Yup

I am 59 and have wide legged jeans. I asked my teen DD if this was ok and she said I looked good. She is very fashionable and generally critical of me so I was pleased!

OP here. Yes, I know. It bothers him that he's aging faster than I am.

My guess is that you look amazing.

I am the one aging faster in my marriage. I get extremely envious that somehow DH is looking distinguished, handsome, and still very fit while I have rapidly gotten quite far from that in the past year. I haven't lashed out or said anything cruel, but it is tempting when I see him regularly downing a pint of ice cream while I munch [guiltily] on a small apple or pile of berries!
