Stop using your phone to video fireworks, concerts, events, etc

Be this old lady. No one gives a crap about your crappy video - including yourself a week later. Enjoy the moment, watch whatever you're watching live, and don't be a jerk to everyone behind you. Put down your phone and enjoy the moment.

I have recorded many things over the years (mostly of my kids), and the videos almost always stay on my phone exclusively. So much space is devoted to thousands of pictures and videos!
So after the 10th swim meet, concert, etc., I just don’t tape it anymore.
I do for special things (family picture, special event), but even those probably won’t see the light of day.

I record a few candids and short videos for myself and my family. It never goes on social media. I rewatch them when life gets hard or I miss someone who has passed and was there with me.

People videotaping at a concert are the worst. You can YouTube everything.

I take mass transit and have gotten to wave and play hide & seek with so many cute babies because I'm not looking at my phone then. Their eyes just search around for someone to connect with and then I get a huge smile when our eyes connect.

Agreed! And if you must record it, don't post it on social media. I promise that no one will miss your kid's swim meet from this weekend.

Fireworks are the worst. Are you ever going to sit there and watch a video of the fireworks? We recently moved and watched local fireworks for the first time in years. The family in front of us had the grandmother and dad both videoing the entire fireworks show! I had to look between their phones to watch the actual fireworks. So strange. (Between them was the young mom holding a tiny baby who probably shouldn't have been in a crowd or listening to loud fireworks but that's for another thread).

During the fireworks I asked DH, are any of these people going to go home and actually watch this footage?

I feel this way about 90% of the stuff I see people record or take pictures of.

+1 for all the crap people film at Disney. Take a castle shot, some character photos and be done. You are not going to rewatch the afternoon parade in its entirety when you get home!

+1 You are not going to watch the fifth grade band concert uploaded to your laptop!

The worst is also graduations. Can't see anything when everyone's holding their phone up blocking the view completely.

Back in the late 80s I went to the Sistine Chapel. I swear there were some guys who only saw it through the lens of hulking great video cameras.

No, but they’re probably required to send it to Grandma.

Cute meme. But the old lady is watching it on the other lady's screen. Lol at the direction of her eyes. People often do this bc a camera can zoom in for a better view
