We have belonged to three neighborhood pools over the years, and invariably in the main swim pool, there are only kids and teens playing (usually basketball or football etc).
Adults are always on the chairs, usually staring at phones, sometimes reading or chatting with other moms. I grew up swimming all summer long, and I enjoy just being in the water cooling off or even just floating underwater with my goggles in that special underwater silence. I would enjoy laps too, but not always gung ho — moreover my kids are still young enough that I can’t disappear completely for 40 minutes without some drama, and our lap pool is not within ear shot of the main pool. So do not adults just chill in the pool, or only do that in private pools. |
This is why they have the kids leave the damn pool for a bit every hour. |
I’ve never seen an adult enter the pool at that time. I always thought it was more making sure kids went the bathroom and give the lifeguards a breather (since adults are way less stressful about drowning risk that a swarm of kids) |
I am 50 and go into pool with or without my kid.
There is one dedicated lap lane all the time |
No, we do that to give the lifeguards a break. |
I’m in my 40s and float/swim around, sometimes chatting with other adults; sometimes playing with my kids. I don’t typically swim laps. I would not worry about what others are doing. If you want to get in the pool, just do it. |
You guys are confusing adult swim with safety breaks.
A good pool should have both. Ask for them. |
I’m a pool floater/chill-er. Surprised that you’re the only one, but don’t worry about it. No one cares. Enjoy! |
I was just st the pool today (Alexandria public pool) and there were several groups of adults in the water, just hanging out. No kids with them. Some older men having a blast doing cannonballs off the diving board. There’s usually someone standing in the pool reading a book.
I don’t get hanging out poolside when it’s 95 degrees. It’s so hot! I want to be in the water! I also don’t like laying in the beach all day. |
I don’t need an adult swim, I don’t mind kids playing around me, I have young kids. It just feels weird being the ONLY adult not actively playing with their learning to swim kids. |
I chill in the pool all the time, with and without my kid. I agree that there are a ton of adults (generally women) standing around near or around the pool, but that is their business. It is way too hot to not get in for me! |
I don't get the issue. My spouse swims laps for exercise. Once kids are older, and they are swimming well, and its a smaller private pool you can relax a bit more (in a public no). I don't swim so I'd just hang around waiting for my kids. |
Only at your pools then. All the pools I've been to have had lots of adults playing with their klds. |
Our pool has tons of adults just chilling. Lap swimmers are in the lap lanes or lap pool. |
Adult swim at a residential pool is illegal. Violation nof Fair Housing Act. |
