I don’t know why this annoys me so much, but she picked a Jenna Bush Book Club pick for her Book Club? Can’t we, I don’t know, be different? Original? At least take the sticker off? Her next pick is going to be something Oprah picked in 2005.

Also, my guess is that after they discuss how important Big Sis is in bed, they talk about how hot Denzel is.

This is unrelated to themes I've seen here, but I'm wondering if anyone has been disappointed with her content relating to justice issues. In 2016-2019, I felt like she platformed people and issues that her base might not know about and tried to bring attention to important current events, like the Syrian refugee crisis and poverty in the U.S. She featured Jeremy Courtney from Love, Anyway (yes, I know of the following scandal), and a Muslim mother who's been really vocal about the war in Gaza. I feel like she's gone quiet about substantive issues, minus the occasional typical white-liberal-woman emotional post (I say that as a white liberal woman--is that safe to say here?). There seemed to be a slow shift, from an effort to mobilize her base to learn about issues and do something, to barely mentioning what's happening globally, and instead, sell product. I never categorized her as a theologian, activist, or political analyst, but she flirted with all three roles, claiming to pave the way for us regular gals, and seems to have since gone quiet.

Jen follows the crowd and tries to capitalize on it. This Trump presidency there’s just exhaustion and, yes, resignation, sadly. The “Resisterhood” era is long past. No one has the time or energy for that anymore. Or the interest. So Jen is largely silent. Cause it doesn’t sell or move the needle. I’m sure that like before she gates Trump and us for all the things but there’s no real audience for deep activism right now. So it’s a lot of shilling, cause she has bills to pay, Tyler drool posts that nauseate, and McDonalds iced coffee runs.

I am curious to read her memoir--or at least the beginning of it. Most likely I will be standing up reading it in Barnes & Noble. I am curious to see how well written it actually is. I mean at the sentence level, the quality of the writing, the soulfulness of it, the honesty, and maybe even the poetry or the lyricism. I don't have my hopes up for any of this. But I will try and keep an open mind to see what she has actually produced. What about all of you?

It seems like without Legacy Collective, she doesn't care about those issues anymore. She's just trying to remain relevant, and has lost most of the audience she had from her Bible studies and work in the church.

On another unrelated note, I have been watching the show Hacks, and for some reason the main character reminds me of Jen. Older woman, trying to remain relevant and current with the times.
