Yes, and Platner is from Down East so he will probably do fairly well there.

That was June of 2020, when everything had just shut down. Turnout was not going to be high.

Yes, the turnout issue was about pandemic versus the usual very high voter turnout - Maine has one of the best voter participation rates in the nation.

Voter bamboozled by slick politician. More news at 10.

Except he isn't a politician, but Susan is.

He is now.
A year or so as an oyster man who sells all his oysters to his mom's restaurant.
Went to very expensive prep school,
Said he got a VA loan. Maybe he did, but he didn't use it. Dad "loaned" him the money.
Gets VA disability. Some reports say 100% disability (not common.)
Nazi tatoo. Claims he didn't know it was a Nazi tatoo but also claims to be a history buff. Reportedly, could not rejoin the Marines because of the tatoo.
Sexting other women within the last couple of years while newly married. Even goes on a website known to be used also by minors.
Wrote on social media that he joined the Marines in order to kill people.
Meanwhile, says that Collins voted to send him to war (even though the war began two years before he enlisted.)
Said very ugly things about other soldiers.
Troubled relationship with women.
Says he was saved by grade---even though some of the sexting appears to be quite recent. And, lots of recent lies.

Great politician! Convinced people to vote for him. What more could you ask for?

Your first statement is a KellyAnne Conway lie, but even if true, so what if he sells to his mother's restaurant? If you had a family business, you would be want to keep as much in the family as possible. First, he began working on the water as a shellfisherman in 2018, not 2025 as you erroneously stated. And second, according to Google, he sells to restaurants other than his mother's. Maine Senate candidate and oysterman Graham Platner sells his oysters locally rather than shipping them out. His primary customer is the Ironbound Restaurant and Inn in Hancock, Maine, which is owned by his mother. He has also occasionally supplied a few other select Downeast Maine retailers, including traveling raw bars like Jolie Rogers Raw Bar and the Frenchman Bay Oyster Company itself. Information courtesy of a quick Google search.

He attended a prep school for one semester. Why do you keep harping on that, it makes absolutely no sense. You make is sound like a crime to send your kid to a good school, which is utterly weird coming from a DCUM crowd.

Again, he did four combat tours of duty in war-torn areas, three in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, and you begrudge the fact that he obtained a VA loan, or do you begrudge that his father was able to loan him money for a home? WTF are you people?

The Nazi tattoo is discerning, but I bet if you showed that tattoo to 100 people, 80-90% would think it is just another rendition of skull and bones. What do you mean he could not rejoin the Marines? He did 4 combat tours, so obviously, they kept sending him back out to be cannon fodder to die. He spent four years in the Marines from 2003-2007, and an additional four years, 2009-2012, in the Maryland National Guard, where he was deployed to Afghanistan.

I don't care about his sexting, that's between him and his wife. Isn't that what Republicans have been saying for decades about their candidates infidelity issues? I have not read or heard anything about him engaging with minors, but based on the other falsehoods you've posted, I'm skeptical. What do you think about the 13-year-old who gave a deposition accusing Trump of raping her? Or the new Epstein files that just revealed that Trump knew that Epstein was using Maralago as sexual trafficking?

Unfortunately, I think the vast majority of enlisted Marines have a kill fetish. That's why the Marines love them.
Collins voted to send young, stupid, gung-ho, ready to fight and kill boys to war. Where's the lie?

Said very bad things about other soldiers. The POTUS told a grieving wife that her husband knew what he signed up for. He told a Gold Star father that military people were losers and suckers. He told John McCain that he did not like soldiers who got captured. They were losers.

He is not a politician by trade or nature. He has made too many mistakes to be a politician. Give him a couple of election cycles, and he will be polished and FOS just like all the rest.

The difference is that he’s a self proclaimed history buff who was so into history he participated frequently in Civil War reenactments in high school. He also studied history while at GW and was in the Marines, Blackwater, and the State Department. He definitely knows A LOT about history.

Also, there are hundreds of skull and crossbones tattoos you can get. When he was at the tattoo parlor do you think they just had a catalogue with the SS Officer Nazi logo tattoos right along side the other skull and crossbone patterns and the swastikas alongside random cross tattoos and he just happened to pick the one SS Officer Nazi skull and crossbones tattoo at random?! First, you’d have to believe that this tattoo parlor would just have Nazi tattoos alongside other tattoos in a catalogue. Second, you’d have to believe gullible enough to think that out of all the tattoos he could have picked he picked the one single skull and crossbones tattoo that was worn by Nazi SS officers on their uniforms by complete accident. Then you’d have to be gullible enough to believe that for 17 years after the tattoo he was completely oblivious to its symbolism even though he saw it every day on the mirror and saw it in the countless WW2 history books, movies, and documentaries he consumed.

You have to bend over backwards to believe that everything above was true and give him a tremendous benefit of the doubt.

Wait - he’s a former Blackwater mercenary too?

OMG. This can’t possibly be the best person we could come up with to represent us.

…and yet far better than his competition, and that’s the point. Democrats need to stop demanding perfection when the republicans scrape the bottom of the barrel.

Great questions to figure out after we get a Trump supporter (collins) out of office.

Ah yes, the old Appeal To Inertia. Someone did a bad thing a long time ago and there were no consequences, so there should continue to be no consequences for doing bad things.

I was a Democrat two weeks ago. I'm now independent, and the disgusting hypocrisy and whataboutism displayed by so many in my former party is a big reason why. All those performative "I believe women" types who hounded Republicans for mistakes decades ago are seemingly fine with this pig of a candidate because he's "progressive."

If you were still a Republican or Democrat up until two weeks ago, you are behind schedule. Catch up to the rest of us who have come to realize there is no successful way forward under the rule of two corrupt and dysfunctional political parties.

I'm so glad Democrats are cultivating a team of good white supremacists to fight Trump's evil white supremacists. So progressive. So forward thinking. You're all the change this country needs.

Whether on the left on the right, there's no solidarity like white solidarity. All sorts of excuses to make sure white people, especially white men, land softly and are never held accountable.

What in the world are you even talking about? What makes you think GP is a white supremacist? It’s Janet Mills who has a history of blocking tribal rights in Maine for our four Wabanaki Nations.

I dunno. Maybe the giant Nazi SS Totenkopf tattoo he had on his chest for twenty years. I'm thinking Nazi tattoos might provide clue as to Platner's thoughts about race.

STFU about that tatoo! You are so pathetic!! He won! Ha ha ha!!

And he's going to unseat that immoral pos Susan Collins who voted to confirm a sexual predator to the SCOTUS. She will be gone, and Platner is going to be the next US Senator from Maine.

I could GAS about his past history. I care about what he's going to do for the people of Maine, and for the future of our country.

DP. We're not going to "STFU" about his Nazi tattoo, you psycho. Or any of his other disgusting attributes.

So cute when MAGAs lie.

So typical when LWNJs attribute any difference of opinion to being "MAGA." Grow up. Plenty of moderate Democrats think Platner is an absolute pig.

You're calling Platner a "pig of a candidate"???!!!???

Look at that total POS in the White HOUSE!!!!!!!!
Literally, he is a pile of moldy, festering excrement.

Platner is a choir boy compared to that heap of orange-smeared garbage you voted for.

I watched him on Morning Joe today. I think the main difference, if we really want to go there, is that he acknowledges his flaws, and he is someone seeking redemption and growth in their own way. That is very different than the toxic masculinity exhibited by GOP candidates, who don't even own that they do anything wrong or immoral.

I was very skeptical reading the headlines, but actually now having just watched one interview, I am ok with him, though will certainly watch more closely going forward.

Platner *epitomizes* "toxic masculinity." My god, you people are so brainwashed. If it's a liberal, no prob - amirite?

This is a man who referred to women as "hatchet wounds." Think about that for a second.

As to prep school, he was also on scholarship. And that takes guts. As someone who went to private school on scholarship (not a bougie one but still private), and had to work in the kitchen, I understand what that takes. Do you (poster above this one)?

DP. There is zero evidence he was a scholarship student. Why would you make this false claim?
