Title says it all.

Locals in Barcelona are literally squirting tourists with water guns as they dine in cafe, shouting protests against the mass tourism impacting the housing costs in their city thanks to AirBnBs.

I’m seeing tons of travel guides with YouTube channels admonishing visitors to avoid AirBnBs and opt for hotels instead precisely to support the local economy directly and avoid driving up housing costs.

As a housing advocate in the US, I’ve always avoided AirBnBs for this reason and I’m glad more people are taking note.

Didn’t Barcelona just ban Air BnBs?

I stayed in an Airbnb in Barcelona, owned by a local woman who lived and worked nearby. Would it have been better to spend my lodging money at the W Hotel?

Too little, too late.

All the rentals have gone underground or through third party agencies. Same difference.

What a bunch of ingrates.

I'm not sure why locals assaulting tourists and harassing them is a good thing, especially since all these people are doing here in the reel is supporting local businesses, and the locals have no clue if they are staying at an air bnb or hotel...I personally stayed at a hotel in Barcelona and would have been pretty pissed off if people did this to me.

From a housing crisis perspective, absolutely.

Yes.

Because the AirBnB apartments are desperately needed for housing for locals instead of vacation rentals.

^^^
That’s the issue.

Oh well if that’s the case then just allow Air BnB again. There’s no point after all.

They will stop issuing new licenses soon, and stop renewing old ones in 2028, so won't be until 2029 that the ban would really take effect.

Well that’s as much on the lifelong Barcelona resident who chose to use her extra apartment as an Airbnb. Squirt her.

I’m the op and I agree. It speaks volumes about the locals. Imagine if we did that to tourists in DC?

“Walk on the left, stand still on the right!!!” Squirt squirt squirt

Post her information on that instagram clip. I’m sure locals would be happy to squirt her when she’s out and about.
