Swim Team Drama 2024

Anonymous
Week 4 has wrapped up. Going down home stretch. What is your team drama this year?

Our new coach has messed up the line up several times now. The vibe is not there this year. The team spirit is lacking. Coach does not know how to bring the team together. We are in a losing streak. A-Rep is in denial.

It’s over in 2 weeks and the kids still have fun. That’s all that matters.

Oh my goodness, get a life ASAP. I swam from age 5-22, swam in college, was the captain of my high school team. My sister went to the Trials and was state champion in two events. And we didn’t take it this seriously.

Get. A. Life. Even if your kids are on track to be Olympians (they aren’t) it’s not that deep and you seriously need a life, desperately.

You sound unhinged and angry. It's ok for the OP to feel like this season didnt go well for the team.

The drama is YOU, OP.

My son has been exhibition on Div A team for years. They talk all about “swamily” but that’s only the core elite swimmers. Typical coaches - who are excellent - but yell thru the entire practice to be heard.
My son was on the fence about swimming this spring, so we did not sign up in time.
Joined a Div C team. He’s placing first, which is good for his morale and desire to be there and work harder. The coaches don’t yell. It was surreal the first few practices not to hear constant yelling.
He’s having a good time and staying in shape. That’s all that I care about.
Happy to be on a stress free Div C team.

Do you mind sharing which team? We are looking to make the switch from a top team.

Agree. It’s about having fun not providing OP with drama to gossip about.

I will say that this is the week when there are so many meets and the holiday that people get pretty sensitive about it all. Take deep breaths and remember it is about the kids.

I grew up as a swimmer and many of my peers were state champions and swam for college. My high school team won sectionals and regionals often. I…don’t get what you people are talking about. The parents were not like you. What is with you? All our parents did was help out with meets, carpool and provide team breakfasts. Some of you are beyond.

So much to unpack there. So you swam a lot. You are a relative of an accomplished swimmer. You are very angry at a random poster. Is whatever motivated you swim so much also fueling such explosive emotions? What else sets you off? You need to take it easy.

OP is focused on gossip and “drama” in a sport that is not about the parents. She needs to look in the mirror and ask herself why she’s trying to make her kid’s activity about her.

Yes, “oh my goodness” is just exploding off the screen.

Well as an outsider, I can understand that adjusting one's work schedule and committing to summer swim might make parents a little demanding about the behavior of coaches and the atmosphere on the team.

But as long as the kids are doing fine...

We're a lower division team, and we're on a losing streak too. Mostly because the regular A meet kids are on vacation.
