Where can I buy a new car that has set pricing like CarMax did?

Went to a dealership and the lying and upselling was too much for me.

Do you know of any dealerships that set a price and you take it or leave it?

I’d prefer a Toyota but will consider Nissan and Subaru.

Fitzgerald advertises that they do this, but I've never been to one.

Car dealerships are so old school. Anytime someone is dressed up, trying to sell you something, you’re gonna pay more for it, because they want their cut too.

Just buy a car online.Go anywhere and test drive it if you need to, but you can watch videos online - or read reviews to find out how the car drives as they sre not different these days.

a few years ago I bought a new car online - well known make and model with big overhaul on their body and electronics. For the 6 months prior to release, I found more information online than the sales people in the dealership knew about when I went into order it; there were online people doing very, in-depth evaluations with test vehicles and car shows and where the dealerships didn’t even have one in store.

For used cars Try these..

Carvana
Carmax
Truecar

You did the right thing by walking away from the dealership. Are they calling you? Sometimes they come around.

Do your research online and only go in to physically look st and test drive the car. Tell them: “am not buying a car today.” you can give them any reason: “I’m bored and just want to test drive” “ I may buy one in 2-3 years” You can even lie and say you’re from out of town, you lost your job, you don’t have money, etc and they will not try to sell you. Honestly, if there are other people there they may try to not help you.

I’ve gone in and asked…. What can I tell them to make them understand that I am not buying a car today? on a random Tuesday, I’ve had people say they are bored themselves and will walk around with me with no pressure.

if you already know what car you want, Email (from a spam account) or call the dealerships to get their best price. Most dealerships havr a online representative that is responsible for answering questions and responding to inquiries on their website.

Some dealerships will work with you, that is if you tell them specifically that another dealership will give you a certain price, they may try to match it. Other dealerships will respond that they have no wiggle room.

That should be enough to get you past where you are. But if You can actually agree on the price And are comfortable with the actual vehicle, you can complete the entire transaction online.

This is especially great, because it doesn’t limit you to dealing with the dealerships in your immediate area. Especially if it’s a used car, you can get a more preferred color/mileage/year combo if you are comfortable with this, and can buy the car from States away. Depending on distance, some may charge you an extra $500-$1000 to deliver it to you, or you could buy a $50 one/way Spirit airlines ticket and go pick it up.

We got a GREAT deal on a 2yo SUV last year. But also bought a 4-year-old Honda accord for my teen back in 2016 - and a lot of people thought we were crazy. But we knew the car and knew we wanted one, so called all the localish dealerships and just asked for their best price on a gray or white off-lease EX. We were paying cash, so it was super super simple; but I even think today even with financing you should be able to make it work.

Good luck, And welcome to 2024!

Yes.

We made an appointment to test drive a car. When we showed up, the car was already “sold.” I was ready to leave then but knew spouse would not like me to do that.

We test drove another car. But sales guy said it was on a test drive, and we had to wait 15 min. Another lie so he could question us.

Then a guy came by and dropped off the keys, so we test drove a different car.

Sales guy left us in the parking lot in 100-degree heat while he ran back inside to “get something for us.” The thing he needed to get was the teenager he sent with us in the car because allegedly there were “no dealer plates” available.

They contacted spouse and now car that was “sold” is magically available for sale.

The sales guy told me he is very honest.

I can’t imagine being such a sleaze for a living.

All the woman work the phones. Only men are salespeople at this dealership.

LOL. You are correct to be absolutely done with these people. Moving on!

Choose a brand with a direct-to-consumer sales model instead of a dealership model. That's mostly new EV-only brands like Tesla, Lucid, and Rivian.

Why are you physically going to dealers? Find 4 dealers selling the same brand in your metro area. Call them and give them the specs you want. Do your research on the price you want to pay. Get a quote from one and start playing them off each other. Once you get to the place that they won’t haggle anymore, make the deal and have them deliver ie drive the vehicle to you along with the sales paperwork to be signed in your home. I bought my Nissan this way, it was really easy.

I think Carvana does this?

Many credit unions also have similar car buying services. And ours always beats the dealers' interest rates.
