Pickleball people

Are they typically very intense and competitive? DD (17) started playing because we have nice free courts in our town. She says people have been very weird: adults come up to her and her friend, tell them what they are doing wrong, tell them no, not this court, I am much too good for you, this is wrong, that's wrong...Just basically constant nitpicking and mansplaining.

Yes. The older people take it super seriously.

Pickleball is just like any other activity. There are nice people to play with and not so nice. As a young women you will get lots of 'mansplaining' and usually I say thanks but I will ask you if I want advice. Men don't ever expect a woman to give advice and sometimes get angry.

Your daughter will figure it out. Hopefully her friends will play and make it fun!

Most people are not intense.

Men are often an issue at shared courts. But this is true in all aspects of life.

Old people think pointers are helpful and they are annoying

If they ask first I do not mind but, it is annoying! They would get so offended if I did to them what they did to me!

our whole family plays and anyone can beat anyone at any time. The people who are the hardos ruin the game and when i play with those types i purposely screw up just to piss them off. It's pickleball.

Have your kids get their friends out there, take over the courts

Our tennis club’s pickleball people are intense, annoying, and wrong. They made kids tennis tournament be outdoors the whole time when temperatures were floating on 97-99 degrees. This tournament had been scheduled to be indoors half the time.

Don't speak for everyone. Last night I saw an 8 year old and I thought it was great! I welcome young people!!

I think that is specific to your club.

So you purposely do poorly? Yes the point is to have fun but, it is ok to hit the ball too when they pulled me off the court. Don't just stand there and watch the ball go by and say "great shot!" ugh no not really!

Yes. The old people are getting weird and cultish about pickleball. Not sure why. But it is a thing.

Tell DD to hold her boundaries -- she wouldn't let strangers come up to her in public and try to school her on anything else. Don't allow it with pickleball. Have her role play with you a healthy polite way to send them away.

Pickleball people suck. They think they are somehow athletes now because they found something that a blind armless person could pick up

Young bucks should take the hint and play tennis, a real sport, while their bodies will allow them. Pickleball was specifically created for old people. Young people are attracted to it because it's easy and social. Tennis is social too, but it's much more challenging and much more rewarding.
