In populated tourist areas where drivers are queued up and ready everywhere?
If the ride is $6, how much are you tipping? We typically tip $10-$15, depending, on a longer $20-$30 ride, but tipping more than the cost of the ride itself seems insane. Curious what you do. |
| I don't tip in those situations unless the ride was exceptional. |
| 20% |
This is the conundrum: tipping $1.20 feels insulting, but tipping 50% ($3) feels ridiculous. |
| How far is this distance? |
But is $3 really a big deal to you? It doesn’t feel ridiculous to me because it’s only $3. I’d honestly probably tip $5. |
| I never tip them less than $10 |
| 20%. Cash. |
I want a five star rating so always 20% |
Y'all will say things like this in earnest and then in the same breath ask how tipping culture is out of control. If it's a long ride and they helped me with bags or something like that, I tip. If I go out to the burbs and he has to drive a bit closer to the city before he picks up another ride, I tip. I am not tipping $3 on a $12 ride where he went from one populated area of DC to another and has a ride queued up while I'm still in his car. |
| For a $6 ride, I'd have walked. But to answer your question, $2 tip. |
Except that the drivers can’t see your tip until after they’ve rated you |
| nothing unless they're spectacular conversationalists / drivers / considerate of where I need to be dropped (in a driveway not in the road) |
If an Uber driver talks to me, I rate them lower. I'm not here for a conversation or to make a friend. Just get me where I'm going as fast as possible while being quiet. |
| $3 to $5 is the minimum tip for me. |
