Turo car rental

We use it when we travel to places with 4x4, snow tire, or chain restrictions and have to rent a car. We like it because you know what you are getting and don't risk not being able to drive to your hotel because avis only has a fwd rav4 even though you reserved an awd SUV

Good to know - thanks!

You won’t be covered by either your normal auto insurance or the coverage provided by your credit card. So you’ll need to buy Turo’s overpriced insurance product.

There was some rumbling on Reddit that USAA would offer an insurance rider that covers Turo that is pretty cheap to purchase a supplement to your normal policy. Not sure if it actually exists but maybe check there first.

We used them in Denver for our trip to Breckenridge last winter. No issues - everything went smoothly.

We used them for springbreak in FL. No issues and easy. Got $100 off first time user. Make sure if you’re picking up at airport that each renter charges diff fees/bill for tolls after.

We used one from DC. Picked it up on a NW neighborhood street.

The steering was a bit off. Apparently, the owner has a fleet of these cars and parks them in DC neighborhoods, which I’m sure will tick off some people.

I didn’t know insurance didn’t cover this. We must have bought extra.

Not correct. Our auto insurance covers all rental cars in USA and Canada, including Turo. I called them to specifically ask about this, and they said it would be covered.

I could only find e cars and manual transmission and the prices were outrageous.

Who is your insurer? For a long time the car insurers did not consider Turo a “car rental” because it was a car sharing service with cars owned by individuals. I haven’t done Turo in 18 months, so maybe the insurers are getting better about it.

I’ve used it in Hawaii for day rentals - super convenient, no need to pay for parking at the hotel. Have also used it in SLC multiple times for ski trips so I had guaranteed AWD and snow rates tires. Again, really great.

We used it in 2021 to drive from DC to Arkansas (we needed a bigger vehicle). It worked out beautifully. Great owner, well aware of the distance we were driving, and had zero issues.

yes, they are fine. Pretty good service actually. Any issue, just tell Turo and they will take care of it.

I used them a few times. It is a great place to check out cool cars that you don’t get to drive normally or to have an extended test drive of a car you are considering buying
