Maternity Leave benefits

Anonymous
I was wondering if some of you might want to share what are the maternity benefits at your work? This is a curiosity question, I just want to compare if it is anywhere better than where I am. I work for the government and you would think that we would have good benefits, but all I have is FMLA - which is 12 weeks of UNPAID leave during which time I still have to pay for benefits. There is no maternity leave. Only other thing we have is short term disability insurance, which pays 60% of the salary for 6 weeks. Its almost like work places in America do not want people to have kids, because I dont think even 6 weeks is enough time after birth.

I work for a non-profit and have the same leave options as you. Short term disability for 6 weeks, unpaid FMLA for 16 (but they run concurrently so the max I could take is 16 - the first six would just be paid at 60%)

I am in the corporate world and go 12 weeks FMLA. Company disability paid for 8 weeks since I had a C-Section (although I ended up getting paid for the full 12 weeks because of complications that allowed me to extend my disability). It would have been 6 weeks for an uncomplicated vaginal delivery.

12 weeks fully paid with the option of taking an add'l 4 weeks of vacation. Rumor is that it may change to 18 weeks fully paid. Law firm.

I'm a Fed -- got 12 weeks unpaid FMLA, and was allowed to use accrued sick leave to cover 8 weeks (C-Section). I took a total of 16 weeks, and used a combination of sick leave, annual leave and LWOP to cover this time.

Re: FMLA, for those of you who work in DC, you should have 16 weeks (as mentioned previously, unpaid and which can be taken within 24 months of birth), but at least better than the federal standard of 12 weeks. Obviously, check with your HR folks for more detail.

12 weeks of FMLA during which I am able to use sick and annual leave. No paid leave at all.

Just an FYI, I saw this in the Post yesterday. The House is working on a Family Leave plan for federal employees. Not that it helps anyone right now but maybe it's a sign that times might be changing (that's the optimist in me)?

26 weeks total with 13 weeks paid leave and the option to use another 4 weeks vacation and 2 weeks sick for a total of 19 weeks paid. Also at a law firm.

I'm a government contractor. We have two weeks paid, six weeks ST disability (8 weeks for a C-section) a 66% of normal pay and ability to use up vacation and sick leave time for the total FMLA allocation.

12 weeks fully paid plus your vacation time if you want to use it (3-4 weeks depending on tenure), and fairly flexible on additional unpaid leave if you want to extend. It's a consulting firm.

6 weeks fully paid and 6 weeks on short term disability pay. I also have the option of unpaid leave or part time hours for an additional 3 months after maternity leave. They are also paying for health insurance during my leave. I work for a publisher.

8 weeks paid at 100% pay, because of c-section, I took 16 weeks, 8 unpaid. 100% of benefits were paid by the company while I was out. Went back to work part-time, with full benefits. Global defense contractor.

12 weeks paid. Most people extend using annual leave. World Bank.

You're lucky OP. Most federal government employees don't get short term disability insurance.
