| We will be in SF for two full days in July. Two boys age 12 and 14. What do you recommend for interesting eats? Places on the list as of now - Red's Java House, Swan Oyster Depot, Bob's donuts, sourdough bowl of chowder. |

Also going to SF (and Monterey) in July, but with a 7 year old. Still figuring out restaurants. I've been relying on Eater SF to scope out options.

| Zuni Cafe |
| North beach is great and has so many restaurant options (can't go wrong with pizza and pasta) - you can go old school checkered tablecloth (Trattoria Contadina) or new (Flour + Water). Molinari deli is good for sandwiches. Getting a sundae at Ghirardelli chocolates in Ghirarelli Square after is always on our must-do list. |

You'll never eat a better noodle, crab, etc etc....and it's cheap compared to warhorses like Zuni. |
PP beat me to it. Best place in the city. If you want to venture into Berkeley, Chez Panisse is amazing. I like the downstairs cafe because you can order a la carte, whereas the more formal upstairs restaurant is a set menu each night. |
| For brunch/lunch, we love Crepevine. It's in the Inner Sunset neighborhood, which is a cute place to walk around. There is an excellent ice cream shop nearby, San Francisco's Hometown Creamery. Also, if you like deep dish pizza, I recommend Little Star. There's two locations, one in the Mission and one not far from the Painted Ladies. |
Skip all those places unless you want to spend your entire visit waiting in line with other tourists. What do you want to eat? What are you trying to see? Neighborhoods will dictate food to a certain respect. |
| I was going to say Slanted Door but they closed, dang. |
This is backwards. Upstairs is the cafe. |

I live in SF. If you want ice cream get it at Bi-Rite and then eat it at Dolores Park, or Salt & Straw, or Humphrey Slocombe in the Ferry Building
Red's Java House - the food isn't actually good. Do you want to just sit outside to eat looking out at the Bay? If so, eat at Epic or Waterbar instead. Swan Oyster Depot - fine, and you could also go to Hog Island Oyster in the Ferry Building to eat while watching the Bay and seeing the ferries come in from Sausalito and Vallejo Bob's donuts - fine but note that they are HUGE sourdough bowl of chowder - fine, but note you don't need to go to Fisherman's Wharf to get this - they're also in the basement of Macy's in Union Square, or at Ladle & Leaf in the FiDi. Other restaurants we love: Yank Sing for dim sum Rooh for Indian City Chopsticks for cheaper Chinese, Harborview for fancier Tony's in North Beach for pizza (he's won international awards) Original Joe's in North Beach Foreign Cinema in the Mission Beach Chalet (view of Pacific Ocean - basically across the street) |
Ugh, he held onto his lease in the Ferry Building for like four years - through the pandemic claiming he was renovating before admitting he wasn't. Damn you, Charles Phan! He has Chuck's Takeaway but it's not as good. OP could go to Napa for Slanted Door if she wants to trek there. |
Thanks. Great ideas. We are staying in Union Square, so Yank, City, Tony's, Original Joe's, and Macy's look great. Looking for breakfast ideas, that's why we picked Bob's as a choice. Sutter Pub is near our hotel, do you recommend for breakfast? |
| Go to Devils Teeth in Outer Richmond for breakfast. It’s like two blocks from Ocean Beach if you want to eat on the dunes. |
Go to Sears for breakfast. It’s in union square. |
