Are there any ponds that let dogs swim?
Mine liked to get all 4 of the ground. I’d love to get out for a trail walk & let my gal take a dip. She mostly swims in creeks between neighborhood & the water level varies I always give her a thorough rinse at a minimum after swimming |
| You can look at sniff spots. With water though expect to drive far, like an hour or so. |
| You should make sure there are no warning signs about toxic algae. |
| Scot's Run? |
Oh Jesus. |
It's a real thing and dogs die from it. There's really no freshwater swimming place in the area that doesn't pose this risk. |
+1 Unfortunately this is very true. |
Jesus isn’t going to save your dog if they swim in it. |
| I wouldn't do it even within an hours local drive if you value your dogs health. |
| A bit of a drive if you're closer to DC, but there is a dog beach at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. |

Purse State Park. It’s the Potomac River and water is really calm and it even has a sandy beach area.
I actually have no idea how safe the water is for swimming. My kids did swim in there years ago and were fine. |
I was going to recommend this but I realized its not fresh water. |

Cabin John Creek has a fantastic dog swimming hole immediately downhill of the playground. Just go to the edge of the little clearing next to the playground and go downhill. You’ll see the creek at the bottom of the little valley.
The water is super clear, and about 4-5 feet deep in the deeper spots. It’s also usually cold, but this time of the year it will be warmer. There’s always water in this creek, even during droughts. |
A little dramatic, aren’t we ? Toxic algae exists, yes. But it’s a lot rarer than you seem to think. You sound like you believe it’s everywhere. |
Definitely not Scott's Run. There's giardia in the water. |
