I have worn a FitBit for about 8 years now. The current one is starting to get fritzy and it is time to replace it. Thinking about moving to Apple Watch but a friend just said I may be disappointed in its fitness tracking capabilities. Can anyone who has made this change weigh in? |
I did but returned the Apple for a Garmin. I couldn't get over the battery life since I like to sleep with my watch on. During the week I would charge it while working at my desk, but on the weekend, it ran out. My Fitbit lasted about 7 days and my Garmin will last 10-14 days. AW is fine for people who want to go out without a phone but be able to text.
What kind of fitness do you do? |
I agree with the battery life.
I switched back to a Fitbit after a year |
OP here, I run, mostly on the treadmill, but outside once of twice a week. I walk the dog multiple times per day, and try to fit in 15-20 minutes of strength training 2-3 times per week, but sometimes it is only once. I aim for 12-15,000 steps per day. |
I switched, it was fine, no issues. The apple watch charges very quickly. I put it on the charger when I go to take a shower. Put it back on when I'm dressed and ready (maybe 15-30 minutes), and it's fully charged. |
PP again. I switched from Fitbit to a Forerunner. I got the 265S because my wrists are small. I am in love with this watch. The daily suggested workouts have made me a better runner. My heart rate is lower and I'm running faster, and I just got it in February. I've knocked 3 minutes off my 5k since then. There are videos about the DSW on Youtube. I still get text notifications. |
I switched from a garmin forerunner to an apple Watch, and the forerunner was much better for fitness stuff. The Apple Watch integrates nicely into peloton stuff, but that about the only thing it does better.
The apple health app give you the basics, but doesn’t really allow you to drill into the details of workouts. If you run, swim, bike, etc I think you’ll be disappointed with an Apple Watch. |
^
That said. There may be some third party that do better than apple health. I should actually look into it. |
I suppose you can't use the fibit app on the iphone?
I loved sleeping with the fitbit and don't care to use it to look things up or make phone calls. My last one broke and I just need to bite the bullet and buy another one. |
Wow. Mine takes at least an hour from being on red. I charge it when I go to bed - I love the sleep tracking but it actually disturbs me at night, so I've stopped sleep tracking. |
You can use the fitbit app on the iphone - I have it, works fine. |
I just bought an Apple Watch today for fitness tracking. I went back and forth, but I finally bought the apple watch for no good reason. I'm probably just a victim of marketing.
I'm happy with it though. |
Apple was more about innovation than marketing up until Steve Jobs dies. |
Does the FitBit app connect to the Apple Watch to track steps, calorie burn, sleep, etc? Or will I lose some or all of that if I switch? I have ten years worth of data in the FitBit app and really like it, but I want a smartwatch for other reasons. I can't use the FitBit/Google version because of my Apple phone. I'm not sure what my options are to keep the FitBit functionality AND have a smartwatch AND stay with Apple... |
I also had a Fitbit with a few years of data. I checked it for a months to compare recent runs, but that's it. |
