I need to up my NW ASAP. I know investing in one stock only is risky, but I’ve decided I’m putting all my money (~300k) in NVDA and hoping for the best. Has anyone done something like this? What did you put all your money in? how did it work out? |
That’s called gambling, op, not investing. |
The minute there is some AI perceived hiccup and the media wants to run with it then the stock is going to tank
I’m on the company but do not put all of your money in there. That’s a very bad idea. |
This is what my husband did with Apple 25 years ago. It worked well for us.
You can do this with Nvidia, but please understand it's a much shorter-term bet, OP, because Nvidia has much less of a moat. It's customers are companies that are themselves trying to build chips for AI, so they're also Nvidia competitors, and one day, they will catch up to it. PP is wrong, obviously. AI is here to stay and high-tech stocks are not influenced by "media running with stories on AI hiccups". That's... stupid. No, there are fundamental industrial reasons why NVDIA has to be watched like milk on the boil. But in the short-term, I see no problem with investors who want to get rich quick with buying then selling NVDA. Just be really, really careful. Read all the relevant news. Know the industry. Where the chips are made. Geopolitical tensions on the chip market. Who the competitors are and who they're schmoozing. And be ready to sell. |
Putting all your money in a stock that has already gone up 11x in the last 21 months - what could possibly go wrong? |
there are a lot of things that could affect nvidia so that it’s not trading at 77x earnings. A bear market will likely be absolutely brutal on nvidia.
Stock picking is gambling, inherently. As much as stock pickers think they’re smart and did so much research, there’s nothing they can do to anticipate an accounting scandal, global events, systemic risk, or a bear market. NVidia is unlikely to collapse to pennies in the next 1-3 years. But are you able to lose 100k in invested value that may never come back? If I were you, I’d do 50k or so. If it surges the way it has historically, you’ll still have a lot of money. But if it goes down by a third, you’ll have the 250k you invested elsewhere. |
I'm on the side of "do not put it all on one stock". Slow and steady wins the race...but that's me.
If you were to put a gun to my head, I would probably hedge my bet by doing: 50% S&P 500 ETF 25% Technology Sector ETF 25% NVDA NVDA would be in all those choices. You wouldn't gain as much but you also wouldn't lose as much when it all goes down. |
This is a dumb idea. Nvidia already has a $3T market cap. There's not much room for additional growth, and there's no indication that it's undervalued by the market. The way you make a lot of money quickly is by finding the next Nvidia (or tesla or whatever). You want to be there before the herd, not after the herd. |
Why do you need to update your net worth so quickly? Just because you read boards like this and think you’re behind? Your post smacks of desperation and your proposed outcome is an ill-considered bad one. Whatever hole you’re in has the potential to very quickly be even bigger and more desperate. If you need the money for something, you have enough for collateral to get financing. If it’s for a house, you can’t afford what you want to buy. |
If your 300k - all your money goes down to 30k, how many years do you need to rebuild $270k ? Can you handle this kind of loss ? I can not take this risk. I purchased 1% of my NW only. I love Nvidia because the company has real profit to back it up. How long Taiwan can stay independent will affect the chips companies greatly too. |
The only stock on which you should ever bet everything is Berkshire Hathaway
Or JNJ |
I put 80% of my portfolio into NVDL (2x NVDA) earlier this year and have gained $10M+ thus far. I think there is still a signifiant upside from there, but volatility along the way is also a certainty.
The moat for NVDA is actually much better than AAPL if you really understand the business and the ecosystem. I’m gonna predict NVDA will be 150+, likely 200+ by the year end. |
You are wrong. When Palo Alto CEO Nikesh Arora made a stupid statement publicly, stock dropped 30% in a day. still hasn't totally recovered and that was months ago. |
If you need to increase NW asap, why Nvidia? I just sold out and bought something that ran 3% faster the next day.
Nvidia will be going sideways for awhile or even come down a little. There are much faster horses. |
