Where can I get really good croissants in upper NW DC?

I'm on a mission to find a really good croissant. The ones at Firehook Bakery, Starbucks, and Giant taste more like rolls than croissants. I tried the new bakery in Cleveland Park (cacao?) but they didn't have plain ones, only chocolate and almond. The cafe at Politics and Prose had an ok one, but not great. Other places to try?

What about Marvelous Market? Whole Foods?

I agree they're hard to find. I lived in Europe (Germany and France) for 9 years and was totally spoiled. So much better there.

PP here. I think Konditorei Leopold in Georgetown has them... my recollection is that they were good.

Bonaparte Patisserie - they have a stand at the Lafayette farmer's market on Saturdays and they are hands down the best croissants ever. Also recommend the pain au chocolate and their raspberry palmiers. Run, don't walk.

Also try Patisserie Poupon in Georgetown. Their quiche is out of this world.

The Marvelous Markets I know of are at Dupont, in Georgetown at Wisconsin and P, and one downtown... I believe Connecticut and K.

Not in NW, but worth the trip:

Go to the Montgomery Farm Women's Co-op Market(Bethesda ). Get there early on a Saturday morning and when you step inside you'll find the most delicious croissants!

OP here... thanks everyone! And yes, there is a Marvelous Market at Connecticut and Nebraska, and I think there is also one on Wisconsin Ave a block north of the Best Buy.

that is a marvelous market.

for those that recommended bonaparte at lafayette farmers market, I actually think the ones at broad branch market (across from the farmers market) are better. not sure if they make them there or buy them from elsewhere.

Have you tried the ones at Mid City Caffe (14th and R, above Miss Pixies)? I don't know where they get their croissants, but they are excellent (and their coffee is great, too).
