| Help! Yes, I'm waiting for dr to call back. My 8 week old dd just vomited for the first time. (Twice within an hour and not since). No fever. Haven't given her anymore milk since but a little gripe water. (Maybe we should have waited). My nephew was around her outdoors today. He had strep but no longer contagious. Only other thing I can think of is I ate mussels for dinner and then breastfed 2 hours later. Thoughts? Suggestions. She's sleeping now in my arms. |

Wait for the doc to call back. If she's got a virus of some sort, the main thing is to keep her hydrated. Usually, you just withhold fluids for about an hour and let the stomach calm down a bit. Then you can start back up again. Milk can be hard on a tummy when it's a virus, but I don't know if she's too young for an eletrolyte drink like Pedialyte. If she's really fussing for some food, and the doc has not called back, I'd probably give her a little bit (does she bottle feed at all, it's easier to measure amount).
Hang in there. I'm sure she'll be fine. |

no fluids other than BM or formula PLEASE! she's too young for that without medical recs.
did she vomit the whole amount you fed her or it was just a big spit up? was it digested BM/F or fresh from the tummy? was it a shoot out or dribble from the mouth? did baby cough, gag before the vomit or it just came out? |
|
You eating mussels would not cause her vomit.
How is she doing now? |
| OP here. She vomited about 20 minutes after a bm feeding. We gave her a little formula too as we usually supplement with bottle after breast if she's still hungry. she did kind of make a choking gagging sound and a face before it came out. It sort of shout and down and it was definitely a lot. Its. Am. Haven't fed her since the beginning of her last feeding at 1030pm. Wondering if I should wake her in a little while or let her sleep like we normally would at night. Help [/b]please |
| OP here again[/i]. She is asleep in bouncer. She's been asleep for atleast 30 to 45 min. Hubby is asleep and of course ii can't sleep because I'm a worried first time mom. Suggestions about waking her up to feed and how much should I let her eat without her getting upset? |
|
if her behavior didn't change (too sleepy or too cranky different from what she's on her normal behavior) i bet it's just that she ate a little too fast.
no fever, right OP? i would let her sleep. she'll wake up if she's hungry. let her rest. throwing up is not fun. i'm really sorry. and rest yourself. you'll definitely wake up if she cries. |
| My daughter did this when she was around that age, and it was part of what caused us to learn of a milk allergy.. So there may be a chance of that? Does she have a rash or anything else? |
| OP here: I gave up dairy a week ago. She's been pooping at almost every feeding and often pushes/strains to poop. No rash. Poops have been green when only given brreastmilk. Her last diaper was light yellow and watery. Thanks moms for all your advice! |
| Good luck!! |

OP, we call our son the "vomitron", because he can spew that stuff 4 feet sometimes. In every case, it's because he ate too much too fast without burping. They can get big gas bubbles in their tiny stomachs, and when they finally get the air out, the milk comes with it, sometimes forcefully. My ped said as long as it doesn't happen all the time (i.e., more than daily, or after every meal) and he's still got 6 wet diapers/day and no fever, it's nothing to worry about. We just need to be more diligent about getting those burps out.
Anyway, hopefully you've gotten good feedback from your doctor and your kiddo is fine. |

My baby used to throw up all the time when he ate too much. Especially when I didn't do a good job of burping him. He's also a poop strainer when can be embarassing in public because it gets really loud.
It never occurred to me to be alarmed or call a doctor. Good luck. |
| BM is fine when they're vomiting, but in the past Dr. told me to withhold it all for about 40 mins-1 hrs after an episode, and then let her nurse in small amounts. |

this may sound silly- but are you sure it's vomiting and not just spit up? I used to think my son had vomited until at 11 months he REALLY vomited, and then I knew the difference.
Vomit smells MUCH worse- and when they do it, they get this look on their face like omg, I'm going to....I'm going to....blahhhh. Spit up just comes out and they hardly notice. My son spit up HUGE quantities. I mean, soak everyone's clothes quantities, but it was not vomit. She sounds very young for a stomach virus. If she doesn't have diarrhea to go with it, I'd rest assured that it's just spit up in prodigious quantities. |

OP here: this had a smell (stale) and she made a face before and freaked out after. Better today but still pooping at just about every feed..I heard the number of bowel movts decreases by now. ??? She's 8 weeks. One other thing I thought I'd ask about: anyone know what it means when baby infant burps without being burped??? She's been doing that and I can sometimes smell the burp.
