Please teach your kids to become financially independent by 40 - the labor market doesn’t want you

Anonymous
It is impossible to raise kids, work 8 hrs a day, stay healthy and fit (or straight up takes longer to work out after 40 and recover), have a social life, get 8 hrs of sleep…..and anyways the labor market doesn’t really want anything to do with you after age 40

People need to stress to their children to get financially independent so they aren’t subject to full time employment after 40

The most useless post of the week.

Go outside, get some sun, breathe!!!!

If you wait until your late 30s or early 40s to have kids, then yes, all of that is quite difficult to do simultaneously. If you have them earlier, it’s much easier.

Are you okay, OP? What happened?

My kids already have investment accounts, but the reason was more what I had to endure rather than what future might bring.
I worked high stress minimum wage job for ca 18 years. To get out of it, I learned to invest.
OP, at least you seemed to have had nice time working and getting to your freedom from work hasn't been a priority. I still have nightmares from that job.
It puts the damper on my financial freedom.
Me no speaky English is one of the reason I ended up being underpaid and mistreated for so long.

I totally agree with you!!!!!

Wholeheartedly, I see the layoffs coming for the 40+ crowd. Most of them never find employment or have to take major paucity just to get the benefits. Other posters here are young or just lucky.

One person in the couple needs to hit executive status by 45 where less ageism.

A 48 year CFO is young. A 48 year old junior compliance person is old.

Really? I think I'm mistreated because I'm a 40+ mother in a male dominated field where all the men have SAHWs. The mentality is the I should be home with my kids my household doesn't deserve my income.

Defense? That happened to me. Until I became a VP. Then suddenly everyone was all smiles and all ears.

Yep, because there are enough C-suite level positions for the entire 40+ workforce. Great solution! Why didn't I think of that? Oh, wait, it's because it's as ludicrous as saying "just be super wealthy and all your money trouble goes away". Well, if everyone was, then no one is.

The entire accounting department where I work is over 40 from AP clerk to CFO. We are very productive because we've all been working a long time and are just trying to finish our work and log off.

I just got a great job at 47. WFH, so I’m still accessible to my teens all day. Plenty of time for working out and sleep. I feel really grateful.

Uncle Sam doesn’t care how old you are.

This is just untrue. At all. If you said 60 instead of 40 I would be more likley to agree.

Yup. I started at the govt. at 37. Didn't hit my stride in the upper grades until after 40.
