Anyone able to lose weight on a beta blocker?

I'm about to give up. Yes I need the beta blocker.

Is your problem hunger? Do you feel you are eating the same?

I take beta blocker for anxiety but not routinely. Never noticed an impact on my weight/hunger.

I was taking a low dose beta blocker for anxiety and blood pressure. I lost so much weight and increased my cardio fitness, I had to be taken off. It’s been almost 3 years now.

What is your dose? I will ask my dr about this bc I both need to deal with anxiety and weight gain

I gained like 30 pounds on a beta blocker. Had to go off.

I very quickly gained about 8 lbs when I started it but got it all off with diet and weight lifting over a few months.

Perhaps ask your doctor about trying a different med? Not all have that effect.

I checked just now. It was 60mg of propanolol once per day. I was very motivated to get off the medication. I reformatted my entire life, starting by reframing how I was practicing law which was the source of basically all of the bad. I don’t think the drug I was on had weight gain side effects. And I was fortunate to have the time and resources, and a global pandemic, to turn things around.

I think investigating alternative drugs as others have suggested could help you. Good luck!

I take a low dose beta blocker occasionally for performance anxiety. Hasn't affected my hunger or weight at all. But I can't do any high impact cardio exercise while I'm on it (lifting weights is fine). So I make sure I get my exercise in before taking it.

I am on metoprolol, but a low dose because my pulse is low. I have been on it almost two years. I have been on a diet to lose weight since the new year and have lost more than 10% of my weight. I haven’t noticed a problem because of it. I decreased my daily caloric intake by about 800 calories. I am losing 1-2 lbs a week.

Why did you lose weight on a beta blocker? I don't get that. Or is what you are saying have to do with weight loss causing you not to need it anymore?

How many calories are you now eating in a day?

I need to to control my heart rate, so these types will cause weight gain.

Specifically when running I feel like I can't catch my breath and my chest feels heavy. I normally run 4-5 miles but when I tried to run after taking a beta blocker I was winded after a mile. I pushed through it but had to keep stopping for breaks.
